I’m getting a bit worried someone puts in a cheeky 5m bid we can’t refuse. Take it a notch down and lie low for a while, Jimmy. |

You could also argue we were unlucky early season to drop points due to worldies scored against us and/or up against keepers playing out of their skins, which now has subdued, luckily. Where Marti does deserve credit, is for recognising that plan A is not working and changing it around to at least get results and buy us some breathing space. Perhaps now with less stress of being at the bottom of the pile, key players slowly returning from injury and new signings starting to bed in, he will slowly start changing towards his preferred style of play. I think the changes at the start of the season were just too many too soon, take a step back, re-evaluate and see from there. I think when/if we sign someone in January, that might be an indication of the direction we are heading into. I also think/hope higher up there was a hard lesson learned about assembling a money-ball squad and expect everything to just fire straight away. Its a process. [Post edited 19 Dec 11:22]

depends on what grade of tear, but with proper treatmeant, could be back in a few weeks. Hamstring usually responds well to treatment and heals well. Thigh eg is a nasty one. I’ve suffered both as rugby injuries. |

Notice how he parries the ball away from goal towards the sides when making a save. Compare that to “more recent” players who do well to save, but knock it straight back for an onrushing opponent to get another crack at it. Some of those saves last night nullified all danger at the first attempt of asking. |

Looking at the players celebrating, this looks like a close group of guys. Let's hope this is the start of bigger and better things. |

Of the new signings, Nardi still undisputed #1 for me, but Saito locking in to 2nd place at the moment. Varane looked good and Ashby had his best game to date. I understand the criticism of Celar, but he really is feeding off scraps at the moment. If he was missing Hugill-like chances I would agree, but I still can't help but feel for the guy fighting a lone battle up front. Madsen probably the biggest disappointment so far, but I haven't given up on any of the players. Watch the movie Money Ball again. |

On the issue of keeping contract lengths secret, you have to pardon Portsmouth for announcing Dozzell only for a year. If QPR had announced a signing with such a track record and history for unknown length, we would all be in panic. Announcing "only for a year and we'll see how it goes" will at least put a few minds to rest that they haven't bought into a Taylor Richards situation here. |

Nardi has been excellent. He also plays the position that is argubly the easiest to settle into, so I am hopeful the others will come good. Keep in mind we missed Chair, JCS and Colback who all imho add some steel and flair we now lack a bit. |

I think the "cup run" at least didn't leave the mental scars of losing to a team 2 divisions lower playing much better than us. We actually won a game in normal playing time and beat a team supposedly better than us on penalties. Eventually lost to a Premier League team while giving a good account of ourselves. In short, positive experience instead of the annual humiliation. Hope we can do something similar in the FA Cup. |

Only one point better off than this stage last season (2W, 4L), but how big a difference does not losing (1W, 4D, 1L) make in the entire mood around the team and where we are heading to. Ironically, both pre-seasons not great. OK, not great this season better than the complete train smash of last! But a mini cup run this year helped to boost optimism. So on paper, not much better than last season, but in terms of general feeling and planning, so much progress. |

Separate thread on that. Strong suspicion that he has been cast out due to his refusal to sign contract extension and/or go out on loan. All speculation and unconfirmed rumours of course. Not featuring for the development team either and we haven't seen or heard anything suggesting he is injured. |

Luckily we didn't exactly continue this season where we left off last, so Marti hopefully a bit out of the limelight now. Rohl signing a 4-year deal great move by him. Job security or big pay-off guaranteed, pension just about finalised. |

Girona is not too far away, might head up there for a football game? Otherwise Espanyol also based in Barcelona. For the tourist attractions, book ahead. Especially Famila Sagria, it is immensely popular. |

Wouldn't be surprised if they raid Plymouth again for Rooney after this weekend's result. |
| Forum Reply | Paal at 09:58 15 Sep 2024
Paal to me is exactly what many others before him were not. In the last year of his contract, perhaps thinking time to move on, but still being a true professional and being available and giving his best game in and game out. There's an example some others would do well to follow. I still hope he signs an extension, which will pretty much require us to be around mid-table at least comes January. |
