Time wasting Goalkeepers penalised with Corner
at 16:58 2 Mar 2025

Nothing wrong with the current rules except they’re never implemented but I guess they needed to come up with something to justify all jetting in for the meeting.

You go into any football match with a degree of risk. I’ve played in goal and clattered people (not quite like that with studs). I’ve had strikers dive in recklessly knowing I’m sliding in to take a ball with my hands/chest. The whole ‘you wouldn’t like it if it happened to your child’ argument is just dumb. It’ll probably get a longer ban because it’s got a lot of noise and on TV. If it was Morecambe v Salford I doubt anyone cares.

Yang next season ??

Get him in the gym all summer on a diet of steak and eggs and he’ll be fine. Can’t really see why he’s in from the start with the options available especially if playing two of the fancy tens instead of three. Perhaps some sort of arrangement with Spurs to give him so many minutes even if informally.

Loads of police and a sniffer dog just after the lower loft turnstiles. Bit odd. Could think of better uses of those resources in the local area unless they had some sort of tip-off all hell would break loose at QPR v Sheffield United.

Schumacher was nowhere near the ball and made a conscious decision to clatter the man for no apparent reason.

Millwall keeper is focused on the ball and purely thinking about clearing it. Careless, reckless absolutely but I don’t think eight minutes into probably the biggest game in his life he’s decided to take an opponent’s head off. Not in the same league as Schumacher for me.

Protocol innit.

Did take a stupidly long time (yes it shouldn’t have to have happened etc etc) and I thought at the time we were unlikely to get the time back.

Considering the performance I think R block regulars deserve some praise for it only being the one. Very old school to throw a lighter when every other person has a vape.

I appreciate I might be in a minority on this but I don’t see why it should merit more than a straight red usually would. It’s a mad challenge to make in 2025 but nothing more IMO.

The chanting isn’t nice but then football isn’t nice and nor should it be up to a point.

Strange player. Absolutely something there which will have bigger clubs interested. Has heaps of potential but does make some very odd choices at times which I guess we can put down to ‘learning his trade’. Expect his form to be a big factor in whether we’re half decent or crap next season.

Very Wilder. On another day they’re scraping a point at best and he’s having to make excuses. Gutted to lose to that but thought we were painfully naive at both ends of the pitch and any team with good players, even if they’re poor on any given day, tends to win games it shouldn’t. Will be a good old chortle if they mess it up from here.

Yeah was glad, for want of a better word, to read they don’t suspect foul play. Sounds like carbon monoxide or similar.

Think it’s a decent risk to take for this season and they’ve got a kind run. Away to Sheff U and Sunderland at the end but a fair chance those teams have nothing to play for by then and are just waiting for the playoffs. Chances are though they’re in this division next season and can’t see it working long term but if you say they have a 40% chance of playoffs and then a 20% chance of winning those playoffs it’s a punt worth taking for the short term impact it might have.

Agree, but more due to the inability of the sides below them. A winner takes all bloodbath on the final day would be lovely.

If only his dad had used a rubber.

Edit- is Hoos the one we like? I’m thinking of Mike Rigg.

The bloke is more intelligent and successful than I’ll ever be but I’ve talked about the cost-benefit analysis of tiny savings where I work or just generally pissing employees off for a marginal, if any, initial gain when it comes to things like being in the office more just to sit on the same Teams call with the same person in a different office somewhere in the world.

All these little things that make working conditions marginally worse eventually mean people leave and there’s a cost to that in expertise and just the cost of recruiting a replacement. Finding that replacement is harder as it’s a known toxic environment with little security. Those made redundant will receive however much as their package to go. Employee stress goes up and the sickness/loss of productivity that comes with that.

But a football club is unique. These little things will filter to the playing staff and management and creates disharmony which if it costs them a single position in the table outweighs Jim’s lunch saving by £1.5m. Some of these people will know the players personally and it affects those players as seeing a colleague you like at your work being mistreated does. If one single player is off it as a result for a while and their worth goes down by a few million if not more then again you’ve outweighed that saving. Also when it comes to recruitment at a football club, they probably get away with low wages as people want to be there just as I’d work for a bit less if there was a job at QPR. That’ll be lost eventually. The bloke sounds absolutely mental. Hope it ends in even worse failure than it seems to be heading for.

Portsmouth Reflection

I think perhaps Marti has got either a tad overconfident about the ability of this team or took the view we have to go on a great run to get playoffs so took a risk which backfired.

Here, at Millwall, at Derby etc. particularly you simply have to earn the right to play. Win close to your share of the battles, work as hard as them, second balls etc. and the quality of Chair and Saito and then Yang ought to win you the game or certainly guarantee a point. It’s not sexy but Championship football rarely is. The first goal is clearly a great finish but the multiple errors to get them into that position would have shamed a Sunday league side. The second is a farce. They should have had another in that early part of the second half. Portsmouth were excellent at the basics and extremely limited beyond that but without the first bit you aren’t winning many games hence the two we’ve lost to them. Bishop offered a presence Frey didn’t, Hayden smashed people and we were happy to let a young ref have a lovely day of it again while he did so, Dozzell has found his niche trying to kick the ball towards the corner flag. Basics, basics, basics and a clear game plan even if a bit crude but beats the no plan at all we appeared to not have.

Even if you win those battles, which we didn’t, who of Field and Varane is going to find the pass? Thought the two of them were horrific. Chair did what Chair often does and dropped deeper and deeper to the point he was having no meaningful impact to try and compensate. Not his fault IMO.

Cook, much as I love him, seems to be getting a month older every week. I hope once any now even slimmer hope of playoffs is gone, most likely with eight or nine games left, we use the time to really think about who we need next season. Maybe he’ll come good again and I really do rate the bloke but it’s a concern more for next year now than this.
