I know you've asked Lisa but :- It's like boycotting most products or companies that anybody has an issue with. If people boycott Wetherspoons, they don't sit at home doing nothing, they buy a similar product elsewhere. Yes it affects Wetherspoons but it helps other companies, their associated suppliers and employees : the ones they don't have a gripe with. The same money gets spent, just somewhere different - somewhere where you'd rather spend it. It's like people boycotting buying booze in the stadium. They still buy booze, it's just that they provide other local pubs with their money instead. When companies' owners stick their neck out in politics or by sponsoring events, football clubs, rugby clubs, they run the risk that potential customers may react against it if they don't like what's being promoted. |

Funnily enough, I streamed this yesterday before I played the Dylan one. There's a couple of songs which are a bit too "country" for my liking but that's being too picky. It does sound like and fits into that batch of 1970-1975 series of his albums and has several very good songs on it. I think that phase and his grungy dabblings were his best years. This is another one I'm going to have to buy. |

I have a few of what people call Dylan's classic albums, but I prefer his later releases. People talk of his whiny voice on earlier albums and I agree that can be annoying but he's lost that with age. Like Johnny Cash's American 6 series , I think he sounds better in his latter years. Comparisons with Tom Waits are valid - nowhere near as gravelly/cigarette/whisky drenched as Tom but, the song structures are such that you can imagine an early years Tom Waits singing these songs. I think this is a very good album and one that I will be buying, even though I've bought way too much during this lockdown. |

We shouldn't "leave it" until at least the legal action is pursued or a decision made to settle with the sell outs. For the avoidance of doubt, I hope it's the former. While we're on the subject, we could benefit from a meaningful update from the Trust Board on this topic. |

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that I read on one of the set-up screens today that you won't be able to watch on different devices at the same time. However, if you are correct, then that would mean somebody could share their login details with a friend, which you'd think the club would have prevented technically. |

There was a protest in Castle Gardens a few months ago, apparently in support of Tommy Robinson. We had a home match and I happened to get into town very early that day and went to the Slug & Lettuce for a pint and a meal before walking up to the match and an usual pre-match drink. Anyway, I got myself a window seat and people-watched the protest which I hadn't seen any advance publicity about. The crowd was made up of 3 types:- (1) Bikers (2) Ex servicemen (3) WDL/FLA types Until then I hadn't appreciated the following Tommy Robinson had with these biker guys , and they'd come from all over England for this protest according to the patches on their jackets. Ex-servicemen were obvious from wearing their old berets. The WDL/FLA types (I think that guy in the Railway photo with the purple Harrington was there) looked like old school football hooligans and had a lot of flags, mostly union flags with stuff written on them. It was all very peaceful with the odd speaker drawing some applause. Couldn't hear what was being said from the pub. There was about 200 there altogether. A small group of counter protesters were up near the castle and it was being lightly policed, although as I walked up High Street I noticed a few transit vans of police being held in reserve up the side streets. This mix of people seems to have been exactly the same mix as was present in London yesterday. I suppose my main surprise was the number of ex-army guys present and also the presence of the English bikers - I've no idea how that link with Tommy Robinson started. |

I've read a few times that people shouldn't do social media stuff immediately before going to bed / or in bed because it creates a certain type of brain activity that is not conducive to sleep. And I have experienced that myself. I've always got a book on the go and I find just reading in bed soon sends me off; I rarely last an hour before nodding off - usually half hour. I sometimes wake at around 2.30 and can sometimes not get back to sleep for an hour but that's as bad as it gets for me. My natural waking up time is now about 5.15 though after working 6 months where I needed to be in work by 06.30 to have conference calls with guys out in India. I do actually enjoy being up that early before the house wakes up. Good luck with sorting it out. |

The club has made a mistake in not issuing a confirmatory email when the "survey", as they've called it, is completed. Whatever option is chosen should be confirmed automatically in a return email - it's not difficult. Then, for those who chose the streaming option, follow up later with login instructions when they've put everything in place. They had to post on Twitter telling peole not to do the survey twice - well people were probably doing that because they didn't get a confirmatory email and thinking they'd failed to make an option. The other irritation was that I absolutely no desire for a fckn thank you card from our players and staff but I didn't seem to be able to opt out of that, having chosen the streaming option. Mine will get thrown into the recycling bin. |
| Forum Reply | Huw Jenkins buying another championship club at 17:58 9 Jun 2020
Looks like it's not happening for Jenkins but , surprisingly, Farnell of IPS Law is the Charlton owner's lawyer as well as being Jenkins's lawyer in relation to our sale and was still representing him recently. There's definitely a conflict of interest there - I'm amazed that seller and purchaser were happy with that. |

I don't really feel I need access to more news than I am able to seek out or get exposed to but I have made 2 donations to The Guardian because I think they do a great job and generally reflect my views on things |

I'll be disappointed if he goes, although I wouldn't blame him at all. He's a got a good physique for a midfielder and thought he could make it for us - only Jack Evans better for us at that level IMO. The thing is we now need to start to cut back the squad in a big way so a lot more departures are inevitable, and some will be disappointing and/or surprising. It's a new world for football. If it's true then I wish him the best of luck. |

I would recommend buying one with a set of guards rather than one which has one that can be manually set for cutting length. I had one of those and I was giving myself a number 6 on top and I somehow accidentally moved the setting with my fingers as I was doing it - ended up cutting a strip with something between a 2 and a 3 - horrific. I then had to do the whole of my hair on this setting. And that was on the day before a job interview! If you get one with a set of guards to snap on, that cannot happen. |

The club is testing the water with this statement - we might do this etc. I'm not bothered about losing the money for 4 games - I paid for those about 18 months ago. But Birch is making out that they are desperate for fans not to claim a refund because that could cost them £1M and cash flow is problematic. Well, if the owners can't lend the club £1M - lend , not give - then we have problems. And £1M is not a game changer if we have problems - especially as we can sell Rodon to more than cover that. So I don't like the way Birch is almost frightening the supporters not to ask for a refund - look on Twitter to see that people are saying 'keep my money rather than the club folding' (paraphrasing). I'd like to see all the options before deciding - and I'd also like to see an option to donate to charity instead. And, of course, we are taking some very minor pain in not being able to watch live football while the over-paid players take no pain at all in terms of the wages which they are not doing any work for. I have no views about next season yet , there is so much that could happen before that starts up again. [Post edited 21 May 2020 16:45]

Somebody on Twitter was thanking Rob Davies for his work in driving through the sale - I guess this is the same Rob Davies that sold his Swans shares to the Americans at the time as Jenkins, Dineen etc. Until this news, I didn't know that Welsh rugby clubs had shares that could be sold - I thought they were too heavily tied in to the WRU. |
