Surely the fans want to see the team, by that I mean the management, and the playering squad, have the belief that they can compete at this level and think that at this stage of their career they are at a place that they can progress instead of being stifled. We have seen some of our better players jumping ship leaving us bereft of quality and it is that lack of depth in the squad I think is most telling, players being played out of position who become easy targets both for opposition players but also because of their discontentment the desire to move to pastures greener. Are there signs of sprouting shoots of change of mindset within the club I'm hopeful. |

An excellent player who couldn't control his frustrations on the pitch, sometimes players who had issues on the pitch as managers can see the tweaks needed to improve a teams performance in Bellamy's case the need to get the ball forward to hurt the opposition by using the players he has at his disposal, will he come up short at times yes but at least we look competitive. |

The question of playing a number 10 role with two wingers stuck out wide leaves us light in the middle of midfield especially when the gap between the front players the the miidfiels becomes too great, William's is using Key to close that gap withhis pace and ability to drive forward with the ball but if the defence is indecisive about picking up the number 10 we must get the ball quicker to feet to him allowing him to pick out the spaces in behind the fullbacks reducing the need for Key to cut inside when pushing forward. So Cullen needs to know when his role is as a number 10 or an advanced midfielder but that depends on the players around him, if he drops deeper who makes the midfield runs beyond him, it doesn't seem to be Grimes, Franco has but hasn't been clinical in his finishing, the answer seems to be Key but can he do that if fulfilling his defensive role especially if needed against wingers who are teams best outlet. With players returning from injury things may change they are notback yet, is Bianchini a better option playing up top with Cullen , lots to be tweaked to get those elusive goals while keeping the defensive part of the game strong. |

As Keith said lots of good quality Swansea players around him when he was younger seems as if he is comfortable around better players and has the ability to learn, wouldn't see a problem with him coming back to Swansea he may even teach some of our inexperienced players a thing or two, even some of our more experienced players also. |
| Forum Reply | Connor Roberts at 14:31 15 Nov 2024
As much as I would like Connor coming back I would rather see the likes of Abdulai developed, didn't he play fullback last year I thought he played quite well, maybe didn't release the ball to Parker early enough but Key isn't linking up well with Ronald it take time to make those partnerships sometimes having to adjust your game to suit each other but is that to do with players experience or good coaching, Christie is here for the short term and think we have more pressing things to sort out between now and the end of January window and then to the end of the season onto the next, want us to build season on season rather than start rebuilding almost from scratch again. |

He has pace to go beyond the forward line, pace which would be used to catch slower players off guard as poor teams try playing out from the back, seems to have a good eye for goal and makes time on the ball but also gets it forward quickly when possible as he did playing out of position on the left last season. He has a tendency to get caught on the ball as Ntcham, Paterson and Celina do but playing further forward shouldn't be such an issue as he has got the pace to easily keep up with players trying to breakout from the back, square pegs in round holes maybe but he does seem effective when playing further forward, would take time for him to adjust but what other options have we got at the moment. and does spend time on the ball going forward |

Vipotnik will improve when the play and support around him improves, it does appear as if once the ball is further up the pitch we are at times we are incapable of playing in a manner to carefully keep control of the ball and have we seem to have little, idea, quality or are restricted as to what is needed for players to open up spaces for other players. It is a generalised statement as at times we do but not often enough. The likes of Key and Grimes seem to able to create that space but are coming from deep or not coming from deep that often in Grimes case. The likes of Eom and Ginnelly seem to be able to attack players, take them on which created openings for themselves and others. Although in Ginnelly's case he has had little time to show what he can do due to injury. Always remember the comments with regards to Lowe on his initial stint here, was his first touch h was awful but because he was fast he got goals but forgetting the quality he had alongside him in Andre Ayew, once Lowe got moved to the opposite wing the goals for both became fewer. Fast forward to Lowe latest time here he had a level of experience to use his pace to make space and time for himself in Key's breakaway goal last season where both players used a level of control and support, working together to make space and realise the opportunity clinically with the goal. We are not seeing those levels of combinations often enough further up the park, inexperienced players praised one minute derided the nexted, it is the coaches job to work out the combinations of players to get the best out of the play. Going away to Burnley or any team, it is hard to get positive results trying to force things ends up with loose play and creates pressure on ourselves but further up the pitch players need to be given the freedom to pick different options as they see them present themselves mistakes will be made and correctly set up defensive should prevent opposition attacks while allowing good possession as has been seen. At the moment as said earlier we lack the experience and support up front, it does seem as crosses into the box are of a poor quality and yet we have seen times against poor defences the right ones have been made the right choices and combinations beginning to form, for me for the team Key and Grimes would both be better off further forward could we rely on others to provide cover for them both in the defensive roles with both Franco and Christie I think so. |

We are going to have to wait a while unless we source a striker the same way as Christie or even from any of the age groups if we can find someone of quality, wonder what clauses are in the loan agreements,. Not disputing we need a striker but until that happens or thing change we going to have to take the chances as they come. |

Yo yo effect maybe be one way of building the team but you have to expect players moving on then. Great if those players were deemed surplus to requirements but quite happy with Vigo staying on the books a couple more years. Even a couple of quality players who have let themselves down along the way and are now happy to be given a second chance. |

Away from home last minute deciding goal and another hard to take an undeserved loss, we move on and try and work out how to be more clinical. |

There have been a number of players as the Swans climbed up the tables they learnt to play at the higher levels, some do some don't some times adding quality to a team improves others. |
| Forum Reply | January Transfer Window at 12:29 10 Nov 2024
We have players short of Premier class already it is all about the continued improvement of the squad a lot of inexperienced players at Championship now finding their feet, yes Downes will have better offers but if a team cones down they have to balance their books and trim their outgoings if the parachute payments don't get them back up. As I said think we have a player defensive midfielder in Key then Eom, Ginnelly can be released to play the number ten with Ronald and Pearl-Harris out wide with the likes of Abdulai and Parker for full back and midfield as and when needed, we have injuries at the moment which is a worry there could be more options sooner than later🤞🏻 |

It has been done many times before, players on the bench only used as impact players because they only seem to have a knack of scoring late in a game , different players and formations used for home and away games which these days seem to be need in different halves of games |

Downes was a very attack minded player when he came here always looking to use the space he found himself in the midfield to get forwards but as our wingbacks and our back three pushed gorward ever slowly gaps appeared to often for counter attacks, Downes was one of the few players who had the pace to do the covering job effectively, may not of had the experience of Grimes but was far more effective in that defensive role while also capable of pressing forward in the middle with his pace. How often have we seen Grimes eventually getting back to given a two yard pass after the danger has been snuff out providing no benefit at all? I would have Downes back in an instant to play along side Franco although I think in Key I think we aleady have a player who can fill that midfield defensive role but that would mean finding a right back as Naughton can't last a game, there is now Christie but he wouldn't be a long term solution. Allen could be used in the midfield alongside Franco similar to Naughton is being used but understandably sparingly. Excellent play Downes. [Post edited 10 Nov 10:58]

It seems as if Williams first requirement from his centre forward choice is a player who can chase down defenders while cutting out the angles reducing the passing options available to them. the high press. All well and good if your teams mates are high up the park to complete the press effectively and we are in a defensive shape with pace to counter the long ball. Even then the high press should target the weakest passing player working the press in a way to get them on the ball and taking advantage of the errors, Ben was often left with poor options available to him he is a far better player now amd has more options but as with all players mistakes still happen trying to force play. I think Cullen's press is excellent but Yate's pressing was abysmal so much so headless chicken springs to mind but is that really the main requirement of a centre forward? Neither Yates and Cullen have great pace or stature, are they going to bother centrehalves aerially, they try but seem to give away free kicks as CH crumple to the floor happy in the knowledge that if the freekick isn't given then cover is in place because with our wings permanently staying out wide and the midfield drop deep there is little support for our CF.. They look isolated and even if they get ball to feet if they are not fought off the ball they have very little options available and then we call them poor players, why to our wingers have to stay wide all the time, we have to fullbacks who would love to press forward into emptied channels, especially on the left where we have no left footed wingers at the moment Tymon has to be used driving down that side to get better first time crosses in. The general feeling for me are thing look better especially when Grimes gets forward more and we support our CF better through the middle it sucks players in to leave space out wide, we have seen both Key and Tymon push into the middle of the park at times because William's knows he has issues there but it gets congested as they can do it to soon when we haven't got out of our half leaving us with Grimes deep too often. We have seen the likes of Eom and Ronald being asked to compete out wide for the aerial ball to try and gain ground up the pitch and relieve pressure, more than happy at times to let them join our CF to compete aerially in the middle mixing play up. The injuries to Eom and to Cooper have meant different options now being used and Vipotnik and Bianchini getting game time, Pearl-Harris on the right winger who would have seen that coming off so well. William's is taking his time to get our players bedded in to positions they seem comfortable in, it won't work every time, we will be press deep against Burnley with us being away from home can we relieve that pressure, hoping we can but we really need to support our forward players be it out on the wing or in the CF position so they aren't isolated and made to look poor players, surely they are not as bad as it seems. Bianchini, Pearl-Harris, Yates, Cullen, Vipotnik, Kuharevich , Yates and I'm sure plenty from the past have been written off in the past as useless, it is a team game generally if one player looks bad then there are quite a few others in a team that will look bad , be it used wrong, set up badly or just don't seem to work together, Key and Ronald most would say are good players but they have not hit it off together at all. |

Get the ball up the pitch quickly with good passing be it to feet or into space with good movement getting players forward to support our forwards we will create more scoring chances we did that in the last number of games. We have seen that in games earlier in the season but slowing the game down to such an extent negates the creation of chances letting defences get organisd. Quick throw outs from goalie, quick throws iins into space makes the opposition have to work harder to get organise and ultimately leads to mistakes that strikers can profit from, all for controlling games but when possible all for creating chaos in the opposition's ranks which gives strikers more room and chances to score. Why do keep conceding ground constantly when we already in areas of the pitch we can do damage in. Against Watford it was brillant to see a throw in down the line to relieve pressure, quick throw ins into the box varying what we do instead of making it easy to defend against us making every one look sĺow and ponderous in defence but more so in attack things aren't quite right yet in attack but at least give them a better number of chances I'm sure the conversion rate will increase. |

Ronald's back post header handed a goal on a plate , he has scored in games but being previously starved of meaningful ball I can understand the number of missed chance given the desperation and the pressure to score and on so many players to perform, yes we need a striker now but that may change by January plans need to be made to act when we can. |
