Aaron Henry joins on loan.
at 13:48 10 Jul 2024

Observations on Aaron Henry from my Charlton mate:

'Star midfielder in the youth team that contained Leaburn, Kanu and Aslimwe who are all now established first teamers. Unfortunately he's not managed to kick on. Strengths: a great passing range, vision and shot. Weaknesses: a lack of pace and physicality.

Very good on the ball, less good off it. Very good technician and set piece player'.

Hopefully he'll do a good job for us....

Barnet away in the 2012/13 season, one of the first games after Hilly came back for his second stint. Edgar Davids was playing for Barnet. Very cold afternoon and a mundane 0-0 draw, but it gave us some hope that the leaky defence was being sorted.

Hopefully at every home game. I also have a jar full of copper and 5ps, can't make Saturday's game as self isolating but would intend to bring it to the next match.

Who remembers Dale v Villa 1972
at 13:05 20 Nov 2021

It was a surprise win, remember Andy Lochhead and Charlie Aitkin playing for Villa, also Jim Coombes in goal, don't remember much about the game or in fact who scored our goal. Quite a bit of trouble before kick off, remember Villa skinheads being hauled out of the ground.

Burnley v Rochdale EFL Cup
at 08:57 22 Sep 2021

I was in the James Hargreaves Stand, right on the half way line, with a Burnley mate of mine. There were a few other Dale fans around us too. A bit of banter, but no bother at all. Just to say the noise coming from the Dale fans in the away end sounded terrific, particularly the rendition of 'Up the Dale' at full time.

Who's old enough to have watched the last final in '66?
at 11:43 8 Jul 2021

Same here, I was 8 and although I can remember watching the 65 and 66 FA Cup Finals it was the World Cup that got me hooked. Watched it in our front room with my Mum and a mate of mine (no idea where my Dad was!)

'I suppose at least we have made it to the penultimate game of the season and are holding on by our finger nails'.

BBM will no doubt see this as a positive, he's banged on previously about how people were expecting us to have been marooned at the bottom by Christmas, and how he's proved them wrong by us not being in that position.

He seems to have a very low bar when it comes to how you would define a successful season.

A brief assessment of the new lad from my Charlton pal: 'Small , tricky and quick, I suspect the problem for us was his lack of physicality'.

Preview doesn't mention Millar, their winger on loan from Liverpool, who my Charlton supporting mate says is a very good player and could cause us problems. He plays on the left, but is right footed.

Come backs
at 20:42 9 Jan 2021

In the disastrous 73/74 season when we won only 2 league games I'm fairly sure we came back from 0-3 down to draw 3-3 against Bournemouth, with Keith Hanvey getting a late equaliser.

My memory could be playing tricks however.
