LABOUR' S FAULT
at 17:58 11 Oct 2014

What pissed me off about Labour through all this was how happy they were to take the glory when everything was going well and then when things went badly, they claimed it as all down to the global downturn.

They actually overspent when the economy was going well and didn't put anything to one side for a rainy day. Basic home economics.

He's on World Football Phone In (Up All Night) pretty much every week and he really knows his stuff about South American football. Ask him any question about any south American player and he will tell you about him.

Pochettino
at 21:41 16 Feb 2014

I am very disappointed we lost but I don't see how so much anger should be shown to Pochetino.
Every one of the players except Guly on Saturday has started in PL games.
Clyne was first choice right back. Everyone wanted Wanyama to come back from injury (btw, in passing, he got a useful 90 minutes under his belt).
Fonte probably really was hurt against Hull (as stated here).
Lambert and Lallana were clearly knackered, so I guess Morgan was too.

As I say, I am unhappy at the loss and the lost opportunity. But to heap all the blame on MoPo seems misplaced to me.

Lambert Must Become More Mobile
at 10:50 27 Sep 2013

MoPo scoffed at the idea we would sell him ("he's started every game") and, when asked if he was worried that Ricky wasn't scoring every game, reminded journalists that Ricky is NOT a traditional English n°9 (even saying that he himself had been surprised to discover this). He said that Ricky is a great player and all they are working on with him was to read the spaces and move around and into them better. He is already a dynamic player and he is working to make him even more dynamic.
He made it quite clear that Ricky is very much a part of his plans.

MoPo just said he is due back tomorrow and they will assess if he is mentally and physically ready to go to Sunderland.

Good managers can build a great team at a club. Great managers can build more than one great team at the same club. As far as I am aware SAF is the only to have done that. How many "great" teams has he built at United? 5?
How many managers have done that? Not Mourinho, that's for sure. Maybe Wenger is close.
To say nothing of his achievements at "lowly" Aberdeen.
For me a great manager.

safe standing
at 22:04 5 Mar 2013

It may suit some and I used to love standing but I recently saw a game in the Bundesliga (Freiburg v Dortmund) and safe stood and hated it.
Had to get into the ground over an hour before ko and then stood squashed up between a whole lot of people, not seeing very much, and my feet and back ached like shit by the end.

I understand that the Bundesliga want to get rid of safe standing. The fans are campaigning to keep it but it is expected to go. Such a change would not help any campaign to bring it back in England.

QPR At The Dell 1976
at 21:42 27 Feb 2013

I was at the Dell when an already relegated QPR (several games before the end of the season) raced into an unexpected 2-0 lead.
Saints came back to win 3-2.
God knows what year that was. Early 70s probably.
