I have to hand it to you Nick, you are a Wind-Up Merchant Extraordinaire! So Koeman left because he "sold his soul", not that the Saints sold the "soul of the team" ( see Lambert, Lallana, and Clyne) ?...All to the same team that finished just 2 points above us on the table (2014-2015)? But when that didn't help them enough (see Lovern), and they actually finished 3 points and 2 places below the Saints (2015-2016), Les Reed and the Saints decided they could do more and then sold them Mane and Van Dijk and the rest is history. If, as you suggest, Saints follow the "Anfield Way" to build their team, one would think all they have to do is find an really good team stupid enough to sell Saints every single one of their talented players. However, if you delve deeper into the "Anfield Way" you find the real reason for their success-an owner who knows what he's doing in the sports world and knows money talks. He bought the Red Sox and within 2 years they won the championship after a wait of over 100 years! How? Spending money. Buying up as many talented players as he could from teams that couldn't compete financially,. The result was 2-fold, he strengthened his team, and just as importantly, kept those players away from the few teams that could compete on the field and in the board room, especially the Yankees. Henry is worth 2.7 billion dolllars. Gao Jisheng and Katharina Liebherr are worth a combined 4 billion. If you want the Saints to follow the "Anfield Way" Nick, you are going to need a new owner. |

No surprises. As others have mentioned here (and in many previous posts), Every team in the league knows the formula for a win against the Saints: 1) They're all small, so just muscle them out of the way any time you want. 2) Let them have the ball all they want, with the exception of Ings, none of them know how to finish, so just wait until they turn the ball over and ..... 3) Loft the ball over their defenders who usually are out of position and you're in! |

I don't know what alternate universe Ralph is talking about where Saints fans show up at ANY game and think Saints will be up 3-0 after 10 minutes! Hell, we are usually hoping we won't be losing 3-0 after 10 minutes! Ralph should take a good look at his team and board if he is wondering why fans have such low expectations. The Southampton Way the last 5 years (so it is not just Ralph) has been "Do the minimum needed to survive": Remember when he said they were looking to get one or two defenders in the most recent window? Then Saints won a couple of games, and to no one's surprise, they sold a couple of defenders instead. Ralph was even quoted as saying 36 points would be enough-when was the last time you heard a manager say something like that??? They usually (rightfully) say they need to win every game they can and hope for the best. This attitude has seeped down to the players: Up by one goal? Well, that should be enough to see the game out, let's just knock it around for the rest of the game. But if they lose, or drop points, it's always the fans fault. No one should abuse a player on their team, but you can't expect fans to have any enthusiasm if the players and board don't have any. Charlie Austin says fans aren't cheering enough, they only do it after a goal is scored, so surely the solution is he should score more goals rather than missing sitters? |
| News Comment | Saints At Liverpool The Verdict at 17:44:21
Hi SanMarco Remember last year? With his team well out in front, late in the match, just needing to see the game out, he used all 3 of his subs to put ex Saints players on so that all 5 of our former players were on the pitch. It was a nasty bit of business that I can't see any other manager doing (they usually have some sort of respect for each other). I can't recall him doing it to any other team. Mind you, if the Skates did it, I would be OK with it, and have a laugh, since we like winding each other up. But this was just a rich club showing off it's monetary muscle and kicking sand in the little club's face. One of these days he will irritate the wrong team, one that has a bit of pride, is losing, tired, and frustrated, and they will (wrongly) retaliate against his players-and then he will go crying to the media. |

No surprises: We were lucky Mane wasn't playing or score would have been higher. Everyone saw the last goal coming-as soon as Boufal touched the ball, you knew he was going to hand it over. Lallana subbed on with 2 minutes left in a 4-0 game just to rub the salt in. Say what you like about any other manager, he's the only one who goes out of his way to humiliate the opposition. Can't wait for him to try that on the wrong team. |
| News Comment | Hasenhuttl Admits There Is No Need To Panic Buy Now ! at 15:17:42
You could see this coming once Saints won a game or two (we've seen this film before). Another couple of wins in the next few weeks, and the headline will be: "Ralph Is Satisfied With The Squad He Has & Will Look To Strengthen It In The Summer Window." Let's just hope it's a negotiating tactic, a hint to agents that he won't overpay. |
| News Comment | Saints Target For Second Half Of The Season Is Realistic And Achievable. at 16:51:06
Glad we are doing well. But I must admit, i am sort of worried: Seeing how our 5-plan (or whatever it is called now) seems to be doing just enough to stay in the league, that means Saints recent run of success will result in no new players coming in the next window. Hope i am wrong We still need an experienced defender-not only for his skills, but to teach the youngsters. |
| News Comment | Saints V Crystal Palace The Verdict at 15:47:51
How many goals has Ings got from mistakes by defenders or goal keepers this year? I reckon at least 4. This is a result of his work rate, always ready to pounce (and he knows where the goal is-unlike others)......Hope this rubs off on the rest of the team. |

What a difference playing 2 up front and going after other teams defenders makes! Keep up the good work! |

By the way, Merry Christmas to everyone- all the Happy Clappers, Bed Wetters, Rose-Tinted Glasses Wearers, Glass Half Fulls, Glass Half Empties, The ^ Clickers and The v Clickers and my fellow Sarcastic Cynics on this site who make it one of the few on the internet where civility still exists. And a special thanks to St. Nick for this work and patience (Hope Father Christmas brings him a Yoshi shirt) and Sammy for standing in all types of weather and then posting right after games so we can a true sense of the game that we never get from the "pundits" within hours. |

Along with bstokesaint, I was/am one of "those" who questioned the 20 million/no option deal. No other team in the league would have paid that much. Especially since he was a talented player and then all of a sudden, the Scouse want to dump him and his contract while making a 10 million profit? That had to raise warning flags. Any other team would have only done a loan with an option to buy and still would not have paid as much. HOWEVER, so far, so good, and maybe the Scouse are not as crafty as they think they are! As many have said, he is one of a handful of players who actually look like they want to play for the Saints and is the only one who knows what direction the goal is! (It would be great if we had a play maker to feed him more!) If we are lucky enough to avoid relegation, it will be because of his goals, and I will then say he is not worth 20 million, but rather his weight in gold! |
| News Comment | Hasenhuttl Confirms January Transfer Intentions at 15:08:25
Well this is no surprise to any of us. Posters have been crying out for 2CBs and a FB since back in the Koeman days, But the club never does anything. We should be in the market for a SD (Sugar Daddy) . |
| News Comment | Saints Looking To Land Two Long Term Targets In January at 14:32:13
"it was a nice proposal from a big club in a big competition"? He must have confused us with someone else! As saintmark1976 points out, we could be destined for relegation in a few weeks, so it it is doubtful that any decent players will want to come here. |

Hi WalkingRosie.....uh I was being sarcastic.....People who watch on TV could be anywhere in the world or maybe can't afford tickets....it is not fair to tell them they are not fans. i am sure they go through all the same emotions while watching a game as someone in the stands. The point of my post was that once you start excluding people using the criteria "I'm a better fan than you, because....." you wind up telling everyone they are not good enough. We need to attract and welcome more fans, not look down our nose at them. |
