Why I don't want Sheehan 17:52 - Mar 12 with 403 viewsGVJack

This is not about his ability or potential, and if he were to take the role on a full time basis, I would be both pleasantly surprised and give him my full backing. But here's why I don't want him to take the role :-

Firstly, he's previously distanced himself from it on a permanent basis, maybe he's uncomfortable being a number 1 and perhaps if he were to take it on a permanent basis the pressure will really be on opposed to having a free swing at it as interim boss. But that's not the real reason. My real reason is for stability, I would love Sheehan to be a stalwart of the backroom team so that he can continue to do what he is doing now, being that man who can step in and steady the ship when needed like the likes of Curtis has done in the past.

If he's given the role full time, and ultimately fails, he will be fired opposed to downgraded back into the coaching set up. I think that would be a big loss to us long term.

I don't want to dampen his ambitions, if he's up for it, and understands the risks then ok, but if not or he's unsure I'd rather we didn't put pressure on him and actually secure his services long term with improved terms as a coach.

Appreciate any manager who comes in may want to make changes to the backroom team to get their own people in, but the Swans hierarchy can make it clear to any potential incoming manager that Sheehan is not on the table for those considerations for the succession planning / damage control purposes.

The thing is, he sounds like he would like it now. If he has a blinder end of season, someone will come in for him.

Poll: Can’t see the new guy coming in to sit on the bench so, who’s off?

Without the board backing the team with a plan Mickey mouse can't help us. We are skint without new investment the future looks bleak. Reality is a hard sweet for some but we are where we are.

Yeah, if he now has aspirations to be a number 1 now then I think he possibly needs to be offered the gig, as we will risk losing him anyway if someone else sees the potential and gives him an offer. But it would be a shame from the perspective of having that loyal stalwart who's happy to be a coach/interim only and give us/the board some confidence that they have that in the locker if they need to pull the trigger in the future.

Imagine where we would have been if we didn't have someone like Sheehan available after Duff/Williams. Would we have steadied the ship or dug ourselves into a deeper hole whilst they find a successor.

Coleman seems to be trying to run the Club on a shoestring and that's why Sheehan wants a meeting to discuss plans to move forward, a lot of staff have left the club leaving him Marge and O'Leary running the coaching, like he said the piece that was posted on here yesterday, its not sustainable to continue with just 3 first team coaching staff.

When he saw off Kaplan and Levein he said the club would now be run properly with a clear vision to improve all aspects of the club, it may still be early days, but the new process looks slower than slow to implement at the moment.

He seems out of his depth at the moment at least, oh to be a fly on the wall in the meetings with the other investors.

Do you think it will depend on who the manager is? Why would they get new coaches in before the new manager if the new manager wants to bring his own backroom team in? I think the former needs to be resolved before looking at the support structure (which would be subject to change) around him.
