Once again Notting Hill Carnival marred by serious violence - and attacks on Police Officers. 75 of our colleagues assaulted. Six bitten. One sexually assaulted. One in hospital. This is absolutely disgusting. No wonder our members dread policing this event. |  |

If this was a sporting event it would be banned or highly regulated. Why does this event carry on year after year causing misery and injury to people. I don’t care if it’s the largest in Europe and I don’t care if it’s loosely termed a cultural event. It’s harming people on a regular basis and nothings ever done about it. | | | |

I went there in the early 2000's Not a pleasant atmosphere at times as you felt as if you only had to look at someone the wrong way and it would end up in misery. Lots of young people walking in gangs and on power trips. They banned the Bulldog Bash which never had any trouble whatsoever on site in over 20 years . Yes , someone was shot travelling on the m.40 who had been a visitor there but that was 50 odd miles away from the venue . | | | |

I went there (under protest) back in the mid to late 90’s with a couple of mates who lived near a London. There were 100,000’s of thousands of people there and most were very well behaved, but I didn’t feel comfortable and at times if felt very edgy.
I’ll never forget there was this one humongous guy who walked past us with his hand outstretched offering a fist sized block of cannabis resin for sale. The guy was V shaped and had huge shoulders, like me and my 2 mates rolled in to one and the crowds just parted as he walked through - nobody was going to mess with him. If the police had seen him, they used their discretion and let it go.
One of my mates then took us to a free concert in a park, he was oblivious to what was going on and we had to have a serious word with him to get him to leave, me and my other mate were on edge all throughout and we made sure we didn’t stay long. Being there after dark would have been asking for trouble.
I’d never go again nor would I recommend the carnival to anyone. One of my mates was a police officer in London, he hated policing a couple of specific football fixtures and the Notting Hill Carnival. [Post edited 31 Aug 2023 22:55]

Unfortunately this would be called racist and the Mayor of London does not have the B*lls to insist on it.
