You could have been the new West Ham.

It made me think.

Is Drakeford going to give Swansea a massive stadium for a super knockdown rate along with road and rail links and extensive parking facilities.?

The Lord Coe stadium gift of the taxpayers. A UK athlete just ran 9.83 second to break Sir Linford's record and few really care and wonder how he did it.

I’m thinking of the correct use if our academy back then, I don’t think we produced enough, I’m sure many will agree.

i watched the u21 beat Birmingham 10-1. Obviously it was a brutal savaging but Brum were angry and battling just outclassed.

Reason to be optimistic. Liam Smith, Abdullai, Cotterill Lloyd Congreve Lissah Josh Thomas were all great. Sad to see Leveritt, Rushesha and Hurford moved on.

I have a feeling Josh Thomas might get a chance off Duff.

You are correct.

We poured many millions in and not a single player played for us in the Prem until Roberts in the last few games.

That was 7 years after Ben made his debut.
Before Ben we produced Joey, Jazz, and Macca in v quick succession.

Yes some came through after relegation but the golden ticket had been lost.
Grimes, Ollie, Dan and Rodon.

People dont like hearing it mind.

We could have continued to be ourselves ,if the sellout were more focused on the Club than themselves

A huge opportunity missed for the club.
We always needed to be different but perhaps a bit more foresight and strategy the academy could have been used to develop players and coaches a conveyor belt for the "Swansea Way".

The academy could have produced a core of players supplemented by some buy ins but in the minority each season hey ho

The sellers focused on building the club from the wreck of the Vetch to sale for FOURTEEN YEARS.

Sad to see you run down the academy. You must at some point see the process as being an honourable and patriotic one in line with your political views of Welsh self determination.

Swansea turned out footballers like Hedges, Samuels, Gwion Edwards Joe Lewis, Aaron Lewis and the rest. They were sadly not up to Premier league standards. There is no free lunch. The players pool was not good enough. This is not the fault entirely of the academy.

Failure should be responded to with extra work not defeatism. Swansea city is building a culture to attract local kids. Never again should Welsh kids have no option than to be ferried to Bath for Southampton FC.

Swansea academy is a form of Welsh determination with Rodon, Cabango, Dan James Ollie Cooper and Cullen all in the Wales squad. These thing take patience and faith. I praise the US ownership for this patience and faith. They believe but you do not.

£75m in transfer fees over 12 years. £6.25m a year . Not shabby at all.

You will note long contracts being handed out to a number of teenagers. They must hve good prospects. They know what they are doing.

It was in relation to Keiths post.
It was a look back on the Premiership years when many millions were invested that could have gone on our first team.

Quite the opposite to a welsh talent production facility as those in power were seemingly drunk on cash and power and went the Kenji Gorre, Zabret route. We thought we were cleverer than everyone else. We could spot them. 8 from Scotland was it at one point…?

Bottom line - when we got relegated that bench should have been bristling with young welsh talent. It was not.
The Academy simply watched us get relegated, bar Roberts for 4 games.

The same Academy that was good enough to produce Ben, Jazz, and Joey before we hit the Prem.
The same Academy that is doing the right things today. I do not criticise todays Academy and Ollie Cooper is a star in the making.

I think thats fair.
You be a happy clapper all you want.

Ifs and buts.
We are where we are now.
We could be in the PL and Europe, mixing it with the best.
We could be in National League South looking forward to playing non leagues also rans.
Of course the current and previous owners could have done things 100 times better.
There again if a certain Mr Petty had got his way or James Thomas hadn't written his name into Swansea folklore ...

Very sound advice
Just enjoy the ride
Watson and Duff seem like a breath of fresh air.
Looking forward to the new season more than any since Laudrup left

Very difficult for a manager, who knows that he's out on his ear if results don't go his way to take a chance on a rookie, especially, when, at the time, we had money to buy the players that were far more experienced.

How many actually come through premier league academies and become first team players. Very very few. The money invested also doesn't tend to show for a good few years as players progress through.
I'd say the academy did a pretty decent job and continues to do so.
Roberts, Rodon, McBurnie, James have all gone on to play in the top flight.
Fulton, Benda, Cabango, Cullen and more all being able to get game at championship level.
Lot of teams with state of the art academies better thanours fail to consistently produce top level players. There is a fair bit of luck involved.

I’m struggling to think of the last time West Ham produced players from their academy. Rice possibly is one but the majority of his development he was at Chelsea.

They had a good run a few years ago with the Ferdinands, carrick, Joe Cole, Lampard etc and of course the mighty Leon Britton but haven’t produced much since then.

Swansea academy is great and must continue. Think of the hundred or so kids in South West Wales that get top coaching life guidance, fun and camaraderie even before considering the cash benefits to the club's bottom line.

It is a fantastic social service and benefit to the city and area. All run by private enterprise not funded by WAG or HMG.

If no Premier league footballers come through Swansea city should not be blamed. They do thing right. i like to think they weed out bad apples.

Give credit to the US owners. They fund it and back it. Any profits for them are well down the line. I promote Swansea city as a family friendly place.

Selling player developed in house has raised over £75m over 12 years (include Joe A and Ben Davies). £6.25m per season with a small profit.
