It's a U turn by the Senedd then, a new road WILL be built,

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-65399697

What puzzles me is the insistence on low speed, at 40 a car produces more emissions than at 50 or even 60 so their reason for no new roads, climate change, looks a bit silly when this new road is guaranteed to produce more emissions and so will any new by-pass with a 40 limit.

Or can anyone show me any science that says cars produce less pollution at 40 and under?

It’s a strange paradox that climate change is often cited as a reason to raise taxes but is also the main excuse for governments not to spend.

Specifically this government.

If you consider the trend in the reduction in biodiversity and the effects of microplastics, sorting out any climate changes will be futile because there will be nothing left.

I suspect it won’t just be pollution influencing a potential 40mph limit, it will be road safety and in particular pedestrians and cyclists. Pretty sure Lee Waters headed up Sustrans.

I’m in favour of higher limits, I.E. National Speed Limits unless there are solid reasons to deviate away from them.

It's obvious at this point that transport policy in Wales is being led by zealotry rather than facts.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

In this day and age with new technology ever being developed you would expect that any new road would be safe by design , if not why not .Having driven to Abergavenny last weekend I still fail to understand the reason why from Brynmawr to Aber is deemed, so unsafe that the limit is 50 mph.

Absolutely. There's hardly anything about. A few sheep maybe and the odd isolated cottage.

In this day and age it's long overdue that the 50/60 year old stopping distances in the Highway Code were updated.

A Kia Picanto will stop faster than an Austin Allegro ever did.

My dad had an Allegro and to be fair, it took about a week to stop, 10 days in the wet.

Modern cars stop very quickly and yes, the highway code needs updating and has done for 20 years.

How are they getting on in Spain with the 18.3mph limits?

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

We build a bypass to ease congestion so reducing pollution in urban areas and make travel times more efficient, then limit the speed on bypasses because they are dangerous, forcing cas back into urban areas because no longer time efficient or result in less pollution.
Remember good old fashion double yellow line at dangerous bends and road hazards to act as a warning not to overtake but allowing traffic to maintain a reasonable speed or limit the speed at those points not the whole stretch of road.
Can't remember seeing any on the Pontardawe/ Clydach bypass before the speed restrictions I could be wrong.

If you come on to the A465 at Llandarcy because of the short slip roads to and from McDonald's,, the Trade Centre Wales and Neath junctions you would think that road to that point would have the speed restrictions given the number of accidents but nobody thought of it yet?

Yes it is and Wales under the current regime is the poorer for it
