August 2021 The system is defined as 'Martinball'. (it may be a good system but is untested) Phase 1 2021 -2022 season The system does not work for the following reasons a) Unfit players (no preseason) left by Steve Cooper. b) Unsuitable experienced players Bennett, Hamer, Bidwell c) Player who do not believe Lowe, Roberts d) Players are not athletic. (like Roberts) Phase 2 2022-2023 season The system does not work for the following reasons a) Players are not durable and cannot cope with programme (tired etc ) b) Players are suitable but too young c) Players believe but cannot execute due to youth. d) Players are still not athletic enough e) Players needed to be changed with transfers 4-5 in January. Phase 3 2022-2024 For the system to work a)There needs to be a big influx of players in the summer. b) More experienced players c) More athletic players This means the 'young payers' showing development will be be sidelined (Wood Darling Cabango Cullen Cooper) with no room a for academy step ups (Congreve Lloyd Rushesha Abdullai Cotterill). A "big summer" is not consistent with a development from within using youth. There is no evidence that the system works after 18 months. Results and performances are getting worse not better. Logically there could be a 5 year plan that develops young players and trades young players into a system that does not work. Breshnev had a five year plan and the Soviet system ultimately collapsed because they were bad plans that did not allow for individualism and creativity. The 3-5 year Martin ball plan urgently needs to be audited by an external consultant to review 18 months of mediocre performances and increasing customer dissatisfaction and concern. The US people are not stupid. Martin has promised them progress and development. They have temporarily pulled the plug in my opinion. If I was them I would be bringing in someone like Guidolin to work out what is going wrong. I do not believe it is solely due to sloppy footballers. A good system w should work with youth or not. Big summer trading could technically make things worse not better. [Post edited 25 Feb 2023 16:45]
