Surely not? on 11:57 - Feb 18 with 2174 views | Dr_Parnassus | Does this really shock you then? I said years ago there is an attack of language driven by the far left of politics, and sensible people are far too driven by social media status to challenge such lunacy. That’s why mothers are now being referred to as birthing people by NHS trust, some Universities are using jazz hands instead of applause and how some people now insist on being referred to as a plural. Sam Smith I notice corrected the presenter on the one show yesterday who asked “them” if “they” wanted to be a fisherman… and “they” said “I would love to be a fisherTHEM”. This is why the sensible among society are now right leaning by default, they were centre of politics until the left dragged everything that way, to make the centrists now seen as “right wing”.

Surely not? on 12:20 - Feb 18 with 2160 views | Boundy | We are witnessing a complete new ideology one of which the majority, free thinking & well balanced will become the minority through fear of offending , this will be supported as we've already seen by legislation enacted by those whose real life experiences has no reality except in their heads . Its scary that my 9 year old grand daughter is being taught about lesbianism( so there's her & her peers childhood finished all on the whim of a group of individuals with no concept of what child hood should mean . Where are a we as a society heading when the abnormal becomes the norm .I fear for the future

If we ignore what happened? Augustus Gloop being labelled as fat? Yes a great stain on humanity that we should leave as a statue to learn from and etch in our minds never to repeat such things in fun novels ever again.

Surely not? on 13:31 - Feb 18 with 2077 views | KeithHaynes | We are in the midst of a great axis of change to suit people who are generally offended every day. Now we see local councils frowning upon children dressing up on Halloween as it’s insensitive to claim to be something you are not. But of course other types of dressing up are very much encouraged. As I said earlier, you can’t go there, you can’t say that, you won’t do that, and you can’t experience that any more. The only bonus for Ronald Dahl book collectors of which there are thousands is the original titles will increase drastically in value.

No, I'm not really shocked. I was also pretty certain you'd be one of the first to respond which is fine because I agree with you. You've made this point before and some have laughed at you but it is happening. Some of the language being changed isn't even what most of the eternally offended would consider offensive such as using the word fearful. I'm glad and sad at the same time, glad i'm 56 next birthday and I'll probably be gone before all this truly takes over; sad that my 14 year old son is going to be here to have to deal with this PC, woke nonsense. My son having been brought up by older parents being at a big disadvantage, he thinks like myself and his mum.
Surely not? on 13:42 - Feb 18 with 2063 views | JACKMANANDBOY | I would not be surprised. I listened to a discussion on Radio 5 about 'fat shaming' in football. Apparently it is not appropriate to refer to footballers who exceed their playing weight as fat. Those who attend additional training because they are overweight should not use the term ' fat club' . Instead we should all celebrate different types of body. This left wing lunacy can only last so long, alternatively we are signing Morbid Obesity the Hungry international from the Palma Hams. There is a long list of terms now seen as “micro aggressions” that are being banned from many learning establishments. It would absolutely blow your mind if you read what this list entails. - “Where are you from?” - asking an Asian person a maths or science based question - “I believe the most qualified person should get the job” - “I don’t see race” - “You speak good English” - “Asking a foreign person to teach you words in their language” These are all genuine things banned from certain Universities.

Utter madness. When I go abroad I consider it polite to at least try and learn some basic language. I try to learn hello, goodby, thank you and please as a bare minimum and I have asked local people if they can help. U also try not to see race, I try to see the personand I do believe the best person for the job, should get the job; I have asked where somebody is from but never because I want to use that info against them. The world is screwed.

Tip of the iceberg. We all have to pretend we live in an alternate reality. Tiger Woods is under fire at the moment because he essentially said to Justin Thomas “you drive (golf shot) like a woman” as he out-drove Thomas despite being 18 years older and nearly 50. The backlash has been ridiculous with people saying “women should never feel inferior to men in sport”. There are women’s tees which are placed many many yards ahead of the men’s tees. This is done for a reason, their driving distance is significantly shorter. The average driving distance for a man is 215 yards, the average driving distance for a woman is 140 yards. But we have to forgo that reality and pretend that the clear joke is somehow offensive, and there is no difference between men and women. It never ends.

Stop buying from woke firms, stop supporting woke charities, stop voting for woke politicians, etc and things may change. Unfortunately, they have infiltrated our schools through woke teachings and are slowly but surely brain washing our children.

Got to be careful these days, people lose their jobs for having an opinion.

It all depends on what your opinion is, if it is a common sense opinion, the you could possibly lose your job, if it's a woke opinion, then a promotion is more likely.

Surely not? on 16:33 - Feb 18 with 1942 views | Joesus_Of_Narbereth | What is offensive about Fantastic Mr Fox having three sons? Why does he have to have three daughters now instead? It’s crazy. And it’s appropriate to point out what a disgusting little fat git Augustus Gloop is. The whole point of that story is that the other kids were all horrible which is why Charlie Bucket inherited the factory. They were either greedy or spoiled or cheeky or nasty. The point is be like Charlie. Don’t be stupid spoiled little bitch like Veruca Salt.

I learnt a new word today: bowdlerize - https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bowdlerize Seems a very strange decision to me in this instance. Roald Dahl isn’t anywhere near as popular as he was 30 years ago but I still love the stories. Wait for it, they’ll be after J K Rowling next.

They’ve been after JK Rowling for years. Apparently she’s a horrendously evil TERF (No I don’t know what that is either) and should be cancelled.

The concept of switching your grand mothers life saving prescription drugs with a concoction of household items including anti freeze and nail varnish because you don’t like her is perhaps a step too far. But then it’s only a silly story and should be treated as such.

And of course ultimately killing her, or at least making her dissappear, it's like an 80's murder manual.
Surely not? on 19:25 - Feb 18 with 1755 views | Scotia | This entire thing is crazy. I'm actually reading the Roald Dahl books with my Daughter at the moment. He's a bloody genius. There are some slightly dodgy descriptions and non PC terms used, but the books were written in the 80s. That was the language that was used at the time. We can't re-write history to suit 2023 sensibilities. As I've been reading them I've thought that they wouldn't use the same terminology nowadays, but it's done, they're written and they're brilliant. Leave them as they are.
