Most wont get it because their world is self interested..."what's in it for me"..but this guy decides he has a duty to call these people out. These self interested pathetic people...this has to change. It has to stop.

Yep. And one of them is access to the Internet.

I'm generally against the grain....people go one way I'd be happy to go the other way. But really it is difficult to understand their rationale here. All we ask for is that people buying a gun...go through a process to help prevent this.

All gun purchases go through a process. It’s law.

Sadly a lot of people that comment on these things don’t have any idea what they are talking about.

The only ones who don’t go through checks are those that checks aren’t feasible. Illegal gun sales and private sales.

Steve Kerr's dad was a teacher in Beirut who got shot and killed so no doubt this was particularly painful for him.

It is beyond a joke in the States. It's not just the availability of weapons. The Swiss are armed to the teeth and these things almost never happen there. There's something sick somewhere in the culture that probably won't be fixed any time soon. In the absence of that then guns need to be restricted.

Nobody needs an assault rifle. Nobody needs a 10-15-20 round magazine.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Yep, the problem there is wider than guns.

To sort of quote an oldie: Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

I can buy a semi automatic weapon and nobody would get hurt. So the gun itself isn’t the problem regardless of it’s capabilities.

The problem is the people who get their hands on them being in such a mind where they would consider doing something like this.

There is already background checks on gun retailers, you can’t just go into Walmart and buy a gun with no background checks contrary to what people say.

It’s a different country, with a different culture and a different set of circumstances with close to half a billion guns in circulation. When people commentate about these things they tend to do it without that context in mind.

It’s not as easy as saying “stronger background checks”. Anyone who can’t buy one officially will buy one privately or illegally, it not being legal isn’t going to stop someone criminally minded from doing that.

Although you could buy a semi automatic weapon, why would you need one?

Needing one isn’t relevant really. Why would I need a monster truck? It could cause unspeakable harm if my intentions aren’t good, but I could still buy one if I liked the hobby.

It’s what I do with it that is relevant.

I don’t know what peoples fascination is with the “type” of gun. A simple hand gun makes up by far the majority of gun deaths in America. Take out the automatic weapons and people will just get handguns and rifles.

It doesn’t solve any issues, you take one gun away from someone and put another in their hands. The result is largely the same.

Sales of one type of gun will decrease and sales of another type will increase. If you get shot with anything the likelihood is that it isn’t going to end well regardless of what it is.

If the discussion is regarding how do we stop people killing each other in America, you certainly don’t want to waste time on discussing what kind of guns they should be ok to kill others with. The figures won’t change, just the make and type of weapon. It will just be swapped for what they can get.

The discussion should be surrounding what is making these people do it and how that can be addressed.

You take a knife out of a maniacs hands who is determined to kill you, you don’t solve the problem, you simply change what he can attack you with, in a world full of deadly weapons.

It does nothing, a futile waste of time. It’s his deranged determination to kill you that’s the problem, not his choice of weapon.

(By the way I’m not against the banning of assault weapons, they are ludicrous. My point is that doing so doesn’t solve anything).

Perhaps some education is called for.

https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3671740

Based on popultion size the USA is 66th in the world of countries that compile and report data on mass shootings, Switzerland are 42nd.
By mass shooting death rates the USA is 56th and Switzerland is 47th.

Note this is not my data.

An example of Gun purchasing laws, each State has it's own laws.

Compared to Washington DC
