We have had a good season.

Over the past 100 seasons we have spent over 40 in the third and fourth tiers, over 40 in the second tier and just 9 in the top tier.

Of the 40 plus seasons in the second tier we finished over 20 of them in a lower position in what we finished this season.

Yes, but it’s alright to go back 10 years, why not go back to the 20+ consecutive seasons we were in the 3rd and fourth tiers?

What has that got to do with anything though?

You don’t judge a season on where you finished 40 years ago and compare. You look at the squad you have, compared to the competition and decide if you have under/over performed.

This season we finished 15th with an extremely talented squad.

It’s funny we had so many moaning at the last two seasons finishing 4th and 6th, now Martin is allowed to get away with anything. The logical gymnastics being performed in order to do so is fascinating.

We had a poor season. Very poor.

Swansea's natural position in the pecking order if based on pure market forces is where the club is now lower Championship upper League 1. This is based on population crowd size commercial earnings etc. Smaller than Sunderland, Derby, Sheff Wed etc.

What the club has done over the last 10 year is punching well above its weight due mainly to the shrewd management of those labelled "sellouts" by forum activists. The same people want new owners to invest big money and magically not dilute the minor shareholders who want to be free of investing in the club.

In the historical perspective the current US owners in terms of reputation and wealth and general respectability are the best the fans could wish for in my opinion. They are rare in that they promise very little while investing in the club and sorting out squabbles with the minority local shareholders.

Martin has to deliver next season or he is on his way. The club have backed him and provided him with the squad to be top 6 all of next season. Mid table is not progress. Progression is a necessity. He can deliver progress or be moved on. He has to improve his own performance. That was under the scrutiny of the DoF but he has been moved on after a poor January window. The new DoF and assistant managers position are up for grabs. Martin needs to do better than he has ever done before simply to survive.

These appointments must supplement and amend Martin ball such that it is far more resilient. Martin needs to be challenged intellectually and philosophically. Lacking in athleticism will not succeed in the Championship where big beasts roam looking for weaklings.

I do not think I'm thick but if Lifelong is right then I am.

My opinion i the current coach has actually traumatised the fan base and Lifey's post is simply incredible.

It's hard to reply .

Wasn’t sure if he was serious, but I guess he is.

The all time league table has Man City 6th. That means if they come 5th next season then they have had a good season.

Villa are 5th so any lower and they have had a bad season.

Brighton are 49th so they can be relegated back to back and the fans should still be happy….

Doesn’t quite work.

Total history includes the past 20 years ,especially the past 10.

Never have we been so humiliated over a season as we have decent players. When we were crap,we didnt .THAT is the difference

That we have been so abject means some fans are seeking desperately to find solace. Lifelong and me do not like each other obviously. However,I believe him a decent chap and a fan for as long as me. That is why I say he deserves better, whether he thinks it or not.

I get the feeling many on here are actually rather embarrassed that their "positivity" has been dumped upon by a coach who is really playing a PR blinder,or thinks he is.

Tosh,Brenda,Sousa,Laudrup certainly could all be classed a arrogant but they had credibility and substance.

We start the following season in the same league.

Without extra revenue form playoff semifnal and final matches not covered by season tickets.

Examples on here of people bemoaning renewing their season tickets and talking of not renewing in the future and attending less games.

We fisihed 11 places lower in the league than last season no end of season "ecitement" with involvement in playoffs as in the past two seasons.
Whilst since we got releagetd we remained in the Championship we improved our position the last two seasons whilst this season we find ourselves in our lowest league postiton for 14 years

As do Brighton.

But an 8th place finish is better than a 17th place finish.

I never understand the notion that all seasons are the same if you remain in it. But to be fair I’ve only ever seen it on this forum, as and when convenient to whatever narrative is being pushed.

Revenue from the play off semi final and final were not as high as normal because of crowd restrictions. Season ticket revenue for next season will be much higher than this season even if less tickets are sold because most had cheaper season tickets this year because we left our money in, I paid £79.

Exactly.

Would be have signed Piroe or Obafemi if we finished 15th last season? Probably not.

We had top PL teams choosing us to send their players to and even taking their talent from other teams in the division to give to us, such as Gallagher. This season has been the opposite with Ethan Laird being taken off us by Man Utd to give to Bournemouth.

Will Man City be keen to loan us another player after the Burns fiasco? Will Liverpool be keen to loan us another after the Williams fiasco?

Finishing high and generally being successful in the league has a load of benefits for the club regardless of getting promotion or not. It’s vital in player retention, player acquisition, sponsorship and a whole load of other reasons.

That’s not the only barometer of what makes a good season though, how much money you can make from allotted prize money. There are plenty of reasons for wanting to finish as high in the league as you can.

Many have been outlined already.

I totally disagree that we are a lower championship / good league 1 side.
We have a 20k seater stadium that would sell out regularly given a decent performing team. Great training facilties. The catchment area of anywhere West of Port Talbot is one of the largest in the country. If the club is well managed then we are a mid to upper half championship side.
To be considered a League 1 side at all would put is in the bottom 50% of clubs in the league and I don't think we are.
For a large part of our history we had a run down ground, very little investment and attendances around the 4k Mark. We were a lower league side in all aspects.
We have moved on a long way from there.
The more that people accept poor seasons and performances based on where we were 40 years ago the more we slide back down.
If you pass off the 4 and 5 nil drubbings because "we never used to play teams like Forest". The more we deserve to be below those teams.

This is 2022.

Why obsess ourselves of when we were skint (although we still are)

Why this negativity. Why this defeatism. Why this lack of ambition.

We 've been taken for fools .

Our history changed the day John Toshack walked into the club.
We changed our trajectory almost overnight.
Ok we imploded in the 80 but the days of damp ,wet ,small crowds changed.

Although we did had great teams in the 50s ,let's not forget that.
