 Flynn Downes : I want to play for Swansea City in the Premier League 21st Apr 2022 14:06Flynn Downes comments on the Swansea City official site reminded me of an article I read around 1977 as a very young swans fan. Back then it was Jeremy Charles saying exactly the same thing as Downes ( referencing the first division of course ) Charles then was a young player making his mark at the swans, and I’m pretty certain it was one of those yearly annuals he made those comments in. And the swans were in the fourth division !  0

Unfortunately , this is the line put out by clubs so that a player doesn’t receive too much stick. Clearly I don’t know for certain but I doubt very much those words were his own. No disrespect to Downes, indeed the opposite, but but take the words “for Swansea City” out of that sentence and it will be more accurate. That’s not cynicism, that’s just the way PR goes. I know you have to take these things with a pinch of salt given the mercenary nature of the game these days, but this is exactly the sort of attitude towards the team that we want from players and bodes well if we do manage to hold on to him after the summer. |  | | |

Could have just said something similar but with a "Who knows ? If someone comes in for me then the club will look at it, otherwise I am quite happy here" or whatever.
He sounded quite adamant that he wants to achieve 8t with Swansea City | |

Of course if a club comes in and offers them better salary plus "guaranteed" EPL football ( which may mean benchwarming, one season then relegation, who knows ? ), then I don't blame them.

Yes, lets hope. Thing is, I don't mind a player (or a manager) grabbing a chance with both hands BUT I wish they wouldn't preach false loyalty.
All I want to hear is that they'll give 100% while they are here. I expect Piroe and Downes to move on but just give it all to our club while you're here. After all, if they're going to earn a move to the EPL, they need to prove they are good enough. | | | |
