Russell Martin’s first signing was all about opportunity and timing 3rd Dec 2021 10:58
Jamie Paterson was at home, he was without a club after being unsuccessful with a trial at Middlesbrough, and he was pretty certain life this season wouldn’t be as it had been for all his professional career. 0

Potter when he arrived had not assessed his squad properly before bring in 4 players who were nrt up to scratch wasting £7m in the process. All were ditched by Cooper.

Asoro who should never have been bought was eclipsed by Dan James. McKay is now under performing at Hearts, Celina and John are back in league 1 where they belong. I am no recruitment expert but i would be thoroughly ashamed of myself if I chose McKay and paid £1.5m for him.

At that time the legendary Chairman Huw Jenkins had been side lined with respect to recruitment after mis spending the Gylfi dividend.

The club now has Mark Allen as Head of football. One likes to think he would be in a position to block signing the 'failing four' had that scenario happened again. The permanent signings under Cooper using Scott were far more successful with Bidwell, Manning, Bennett, Lowe and Hamer being solid credible signings.

Martin has not wasted money either with Patterson who has been a revelation and Downes who appears to be on an upward trajectory in g his career.

To date Martin has not brought on Brandon Cooper and Steven Benda. who both need another 50 games under their belts. Send Benda to the MK Dons and take a look at their lad on a 6 month loan swap.

It's a decent post but has to spoil it all by being so sycophantic over HJ.

Cornish gold.

Martin seems to have a knack of recognising our very best talent for our spine. With Naughts, Bennett, Grimesy, Pato and Piroe (although not his choice, and unceremoniously ditched early doors, his biggest faux pas).

Augurs well for our solidity and foundations for Plan B.

What Martin needs to do now is revert back to listening to Pato and Grimesy, and their symbiotic relationship going forward. We need to see Grimesy unleashed further upfield, relinking with Pato to get some urgency, purpose and stardust in the final third.

And yet some here want to get rid of our #2 pick on Martin's team sheet. The #2 to Grimes in optimising Martin's model. How very, very twp, even for the unthinking sheeple.

Don't know why people bother replying sensibly to this thing that crawls from under a stone now and again TJ.

The thing is TJ, Martin has all his eggs in Grimesey's basket. And for good reason.

Grimesy personifies Martin's ethos, his chosen Captain and Leader to deliver Brand Martin.

Martin's model professional at the fulcrum of everything brand Martin.

Which begs the question, why so many of the Martinball blind faithful are So anti-Grimes. By my reckoning they must be simply attacking the poster, instead of looking at the facts.

To be fair I think that is one of Resolven’s best posts to date.
