Long distance lorry driver but only as a young unmarried man and only inter continental.

Plumber too, as ladies seem to like them.

Would have loved to be a doctor, sadly I spent my educational and teenage years f*cking about instead of learning, what a waste, and always will be one of my biggest regrets.

I was like you, too busy having fun!

Vet I think, or, ironically given that's about saving lives, Gunner - STA patrols special observer! That was what I applied for when I left school but health got in the way.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I'm fortunate to have been in jobs which have been enjoyable in terms of scope and opportunities and I have no regrets in my chosen path through life. There's not many jobs which I could honestly say could better than the ones I've had

Don't get me wrong, I did quite well out of the profession I eventually got into, and I had some great times along the way, also made some good friends.

I just wonder sometimes if I worked a little harder at school, I may have achieved much much more, but I suppose a lot of people can/would say the same thing.

I've been reasonably successful in the career path that chose me, but I do often wonder how I would have done had I possessed the work ethic that some of my friends do.

Intellectually I could have kept up, but when it comes to putting in the 70-80 hour work weeks that some of them did I'd have undoubtedly checked out at that point. Quite happy with my 37 hour, Mon-Fri job.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

If you can’t have fun when you are young when can you?
Hated school, left at 15 and never regretted it.

I left school at 15 after failing the 11 + no Swansea Certificates (yes they did exist) , straight into Army as a young soldier ( something I always wanted to be) ,educationally I feel I caught up with my peers passing a number of Health & Safety and industry qualifications in my now chosen field and although I could retire with decent pension I choose to continue working and will as long as my health lets me , (some aspects of my job involves a certain amount of physical exertion) .
My careers have also involved working in teams and I've made and still have many friends from those days, so no regrets and honestly little envy towards other professions.

Strangely enough long distance lorry driver always appealed to me as well. Just me and a terrier in the cab sounds bliss. If you fall for a woman and have kids it’s not ideal though and I did, married 42 years ago today in fact. I’ve been lucky and done ok, retired at 54 ten years ago after setting up and selling a business 30 years later.

I think about my late father with whom I had a mixed relationship. He left school on his 14th birthday in March 1939 because the family needed the money. I still have the letter granting permission for this to happen on economic grounds. He went to work in the fitting shop in a coal mine. By 1955 he was the senior shaft sinking and tunnelling engineer for the South Wales coalfield. A hell of a lot of hard work and night school getting qualifications happened in the intervening 16 years. I respected him enormously for that.

How the world has changed.

Nice to so many posters enjoying the job they do, similar for me.

University of life for me, through hard work I’m now in a great job with satisfaction that I work
for a company that changes people’s lives for the better every 16 seconds worldwide.

Manage a great team of people & prior to what I’m currently doing travelled throughout Europe for 10 years which was both exciting & gave me some great life experiences.

I wish I’d worked harder in school and gone on to uni like a fair few of my mates, but I messed about too much and missed out.
I’d loved to have been a pilot, professional footballer or rugby player, traveled the world with the navy and more recently regret not becoming a doctor after seeing one save my kids life a few years ago.

Despite not going on to Uni, I’ve done ok for myself and am happy with my lot in life. I’ll be happier in a couple of months when I retire!

I would like to serve as the Minister for Women and Equalities.

Nevertheless, Liz Truss is doing an excellent job and it wouldn't surprise me to see her as Prime Minister within the next decade.

I would have liked a career where I helped people become families, and later in life when reducing my work load, still kept my hand ✋in.

I wished I'd trained as a Gynaecologist. 😇

I never had an ambition to do anything in particular.Career advice at my schools was, get a trade and you are set for life. I did and how wrong they were.

I did eventually get a good job that paid well, but after a while there was little job satisfaction.I did get to become a train driver at one stage, which was most young boys dream

My advice to youngsters is, find something that you enjoy doing as you spend a lot of time at work. Money is great, but it's not everything.

Not necessarily jobs I wish I done because work is what I do not what I 'am

I would loved to have travelled more and worked abroad instead of dicking about in places like Ibiza & Magaluf with the boys. I have made up for it now and have been to some great amazing countries but now as a middle aged married man....so maybe not the same

In 2000 I passed the Admiralty board to join the Royal Navy on a commission, I was scheduled to join in early 2001.

Between the two dates I was offered another excellent "job for life", I spoke to my Grandfather who was a lifelong navy man, his advice was "if you have to think about which job to take, the Navy isn't for you"

I've often wondered where I would be if I'd chosen the RN.
