It’s a tough call between Stormzy for his inspiring songs about shanking people’s livers or Cardi B for her thought provoking sonnet about her wet ass pussy.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

I'll go with Cardi B then.
She's style influencer of the year too, apparently. Influencers....it's only a job as long as there are weak willed idiots who slavishly folow what some YouTube "celebrity" says.

She’s making millions, fair play to the girl. Lots of people seem to like her but it’s not for me.

Doesn't that mean Sam Smith is guilty of cultural appropriation then?
Music is music, regardless of colour. There should just be music awards and none of this divisive nonsense where they attach colour to it.
So many of the worlds best people, in whatever field you talk about, are not white and would win awards anyway.
Le Mozart Noir anyone?
No. Why would you say that?
That’s like saying Jessye Norman is guilty of cultural appropriation.
The reason the MOBOs started is because the major music awards at the time (the BRITs and NME awards) tended to ignore music that originated in the black communities, despite its popularity. It’s not really the case now as the BRITs now recognises rap and R&B as they are so mainstream. There’s also an argument for most ‘pop‘ music being heavily based on music that developed in black communities.
So the name of the awards is now probably out of date, but I can’t see why it would bother anyone sensible to be honest.

Probably though of what I do know, More R&B than pop.
Look at the aesthetics, Lis: Neo-classical architecture, Union flags, bespoke tailoring, fair-haired French girls and Bond. That’s not ‘Street’ or whatever descriptor they use on the MOBO judging panel, he’s broken into my head and pinched half the things floating around in there...
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Yeah - that’s a Bond song with the usual Bond themes. The album that won the awards at the MOBOs was ‘In the Lonely Hour’ which I would say definitely falls into the R&B / soul category.
I don’t know too much of the later stuff as I find it a bit dull to be honest but that was a good album.

It’s all mostly mawkish balladeering aimed, I would imagine, at teenage girls who have had their heart broken for the first time.
The audience for that would be as big as it ever was.

The awards themselves don't bother me really, what does bother me is the divisive nature of attaching colour to something. Like I said, music is music, we all have different tastes and I don't remember ever disliking music based on the artistes colour. I like it or I don't based purely on the music itself. Simple as that.
To be fair there are "musicians" I don't like, Madonna to start with, her and all that Kaballah nonsense. Sam Smith and this "their" nonsense I don't like either but I like his music. Stormzy will say his lyrics are gritty and represent reality whereas others would say they are graphic and glorify violence. I just don't like rap/grime/house/hip hop etc.

It’s not based on the colour of the artists. It’s based on the type of music.
It only exists because that type of music was being ignored by the mainstream awards at that time.
Don’t forget that it’s not that long before the MOBOs that MTV refused to play any ‘black’ music.
I’m not a fan of grime either! To me it has no tune, but then that just makes me sound like my grandmother talking about the music I liked when I was a teenager.
