Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

It's a fantastic story. There are so many incredible true stories from WW2. Operation Chariot is another, Operation Agreement is my favourite, for personal reasons.

If anyone's looking for a good read in the lockdown, try and get hold of 'Ghost Soldiers' by US historian Hampton Sides. It tells the amazing true story of a mission carried out by 150 US Rangers very well supported by local guerillas in the occupied Phillipines in 1945. At this time the Japs were murdering POWs wholesale to get rid of witnesses, and the Americans feared the well guarded Cabanatuan camp 30 miles behind enemy lines containing 500 prisoners was next. The rangers trekked in secret through territory riddled with enemy forces and launched an amazing rescue raid at night which was stunningly successful in destroying the Jap garrison and getting almost everyone back unscathed. A fantastic story.

Clarkson's not everyone's cup of tea (to put it mildly) but if he stuck to doing stuff like this and the Brunel doc he'd be doing alright.

Ever since my son was... never conceived, because I've never had consensual sex without money involved... I've always kind of looked at you as... a thing, that I could live next to... in accordance with state laws.

Who would have thought a homeless penniless drunk from Aberbargoed would play such a huge part in turning the tide of the war albeit unknowingly. Ian Flemming of James Bond fame was behind the plan apparently.

Interesting to note that 'Hollywood' decided to sex up the story with the sub plot about an Irish spy working for the Germans being sent to London to check out the veracity of the corpse's identity. It wasn't mentioned in the documentary. No truth in that whatsoever, then?

They often have to try and spice up an already incredible story, the Heroes of Telemark was on the other day and they had to do the same there. They did sink the ferry but there were hardly any German guards and 14 passengers, not the load of kids that they rescued. Still, at least it was small changes, not like U571!

The film is based on the book written by Ewen Montagu so there's a good chance that it did happen.
Well you know more than me then. I didn't think it detracted from the film though.
No, neither did I. I thought it added to the story. But it does beg the question, how far should film makers go in bending the truth for the sake of entertainment? Anyway, enough of that, before we bore the pants off everyone.
