| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

St Edmund used to be the patron of England but the normans probably wanted someone non Anglo Saxon . He patron of Lebanon, Georgia and other countries. Highly revered by Eastern Orthodox Christians and evening Muslims in the Middle East. I

It would have been the Plantagenets that picked George during the crusades. The normans were more for Edward the confessor since he was their claim to the throne.

Not the last no. That was Harold Godwinson. Edward was venerated by the Normans because of his alleged miracles, devotion to God and the construction of Westminster Abbey. The fact he was half Norman and allegedly promised William the throne was a Bruce Bonus.

The three of them (Godwinson, William and Hadradar) all had dubious claims to the throne. Although Godwinson was crowned the controversy of not being the legitimate heir seems to make historians look to Edward as the last true Anglo Saxon monarch.

He was by any measure the legitimate king as he was elected by the Witenagemot, but it was certainly a power grab. He had been in exile for years for trying to steal the crown and only found favour again later on. It’s a fascinating story, much better than anything something like game of thrones could ever come up with. He was obviously a ruthless and very capable leader and general. If he hadn’t have had to fight on multiple fronts the Norman invasion probably never would have been successful.
