When we used to sign players like garrick, mcburnnie etc 13:22 - Jan 6 with 2204 views | NotLoyal | I'm not hearing much these days of young kids coming in to bolster youth, under 18s etc. Much of this was down to Toshack and yes, Huw Jenkins. But now with the products of the reserve system either not good enough or sold where are we with this. If anyone thinks the Yanks aren't selling these products recent transfers are a clue and without replacements to develop I'm not surprised they are being accused of asset stripping.

When we used to sign players like garrick, mcburnnie etc on 17:30 - Jan 6 with 1753 views | Kilkennyjack | Much better to develop from u8s up rather than simply sign ready made players at 16/18. Yes 2 have been big big hits, but as Gorre and Zabret (signed 2013) prove there are no guarantees and we could be throwing good money after bad. Realistically a mid Championship club has to develop local talent through hard work. Not all doom and gloom though ...with south Wales area producing Bale, Rambo, Joey, Gunter, Ben etc. A great opportunity presents for our Academy coaches.

Wasting your time mate. Who'd have thought that a club struggling to make ends meet, stop throwing 6 figure sums about on kids... There plenty on here that were up in arms when we were paying those sums when we were in the premier league.

When we used to sign players like garrick, mcburnnie etc on 19:10 - Jan 6 with 1613 views | jasper_T | Lewis Webb from Merthyr is a similar status player to what Garrick was. Made their team of the decade. We're not spending hundreds of grand each on 18 year old Scotsmen any more, but there's a few imports still biding their time before release or breakthrough. Paulet progressing fairly well, Al-Hamadi gradually stepping up to u23s level. de Boer probably out at the end of the season. Jordi Govea caught Montero's hamstring disease RIP. We haven't got the cash to recruit like PL Cat 1 academies do but if it means less talented local players falling by the wayside behind expensive duffers it's not the end of the world. Adnan Maric signed for BK Hacken back home in Sweden today.

Fulton, Kingsley, Biabi and Ryan Blair. Couple of million quid and only two ended up just about good enough to play Championship football. The other two Scottish Championship at best. Drop in the bucket at the time, mind. Just a shame lads like Jack Evans and Liam Cullen were starved of football as a result. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Garrick wasn’t a six figure fee though.
When we used to sign players like garrick, mcburnnie etc on 19:42 - Jan 6 with 1517 views | Badlands | Under 23s only spent only 2 seasons in the higher Professional development league and players stopped being attracted to the club. Until James' move to Man United none had hit the big time. Academy players are like any footballers who, given the choice between Swansea and Liverpool or the established centres like Southampton don't chose us. Perhaps the Americans didn't approve big money incentives but when you have to offer pays days to first team transfers which are less than under some 21s it isn't rocket science to see why players don't come to us. But keep banging on about asset stripping ... it used to be irritating now it's just funny.

Factor in his signing on fee and wages and you're talking large sums of money.

Two big hits? Problem I have is they went for 40 million. I can't think of an 8 year old who has ever done that at Swansea. as for badlands comment, I am talking about 'where are the new signings ' there are none, hence why people are accusing them of asset stripping because they aren't replacing the kids they are getting millions for. I'll leave you a day or two to think about it. it's the only thing we potentially disagree about so take your time.

The kids we got £Millions for were McBurnie and James. £34 million. We were looking to save around £30 million over the 2019 -20 season, including wages for Aye and Borja but not including loan player deals. Transfers have brought in a plus figure of around £35 not £40 million. (James 15, McBurnie 17, Ayew 2.5) We saved money on wages for serval players but - We didn't off-load Ayew and Borja and Bony was paid up to the end of his contract. We didn't down grade Category 1 status. The players we got big money for via the academy are few and far between and it could be argued that they have only come through out of necessity and the manager at the time (Allen and Davies had he same path to senior football) and they had been prepped by other clubs. I want the academy to turn into something akin to Southampton or Leicester but that takes time and he players we have brought through took years to assemble and at the moment we don't have a good reputation, we aren't n a high league and we don't have money to throw around. That to me indicates we are doing no more than breaking even on meeting financial targets. No need for a 'a day or two to think about it' because the money we are bringing is is being used to run the club. As I have posted many times, when someone can show how assets are being stripped, how much and where to I will join the herd. If you can explain how the degradation of share value from a reported £66 million to around £30 million indicates a fleecing f the club I will also join the herd.

If only they were fully open and above board with the second biggest shareholder there wouldn’t be any need for speculation. Until then ........

Put all talk about finances to one side, where are the new kids regardless of how much, we aren't shouting from the rooftops anymore, and there's a reason for that, the club has lost its way and far more than ever, but that's my opinion only based on what's gone on before.
