On RL,I took my old fella to see Saints v The Pies,when Edwards ,Betts ,Connolly and Chariots were in their pomp . It was at the old Central Park.
He was blown away with how fast the game was although he couldn’t get his head around the laughable “ scrums” and no lines out . The passion took him by surprise too. These two teams did not and do not like e@ch other .
I took him to Widnes ( fireboys team) v Warrington,another nasty fixture . Davies played for Widnes and Allan Bateman for the Wire. It was heartbreaking for welsh Union to lose them. . Bateman was unbelievable . A class player and wonderful guy too. A freak
As for legends,Wales RL has many from Lewis Jones ,to Billy Boston and John Bevan ,Jiffy and Dai Watkins . We ve made our mark in league and should be proud of those who were brave to come north and shun the shameteurism of Union | |
