The owners were fed up with Martin and effectively eased Martin to the door. Martin said that Whittaker was great and a good prospect. He then said he need help "up top" having marginalised both Obafemi and Patterson.
The US owners said. You want help up top here is highly rated Morgan Whittaker. Either play him or sell him and use that money to buy a new striker. Ideally he would have played Morgan increased his value and sold him in the summer for much more. Martin rather poorly in my opinion stated returning Whittaker was not his decision and was with the view to selling him. This was not in the best interests of the club and MW was not going to bust a gut for Martin.
Even Duff could have retained Whittaker. Whittaker said he wanted to leave. Duff could have promised him a chance and refused the request telling him he was "in his plans". This was probably all the fellow ever wanted to hear.
The owners will have been seething at the way Cooper marginalised Goykeres. Cooper did the same by rejecting the striker he had for one he could not afford (Keinan Davis). Goykeres was ideal for Swansea (high potential low transfer fee) but the problem was the manager.

Martin was never ‘eased’ to the door. As soon as he knew the Saints were interested HE wanted out. Stop trying to change the narrative with made up inaccurate information. This post was supposed to be about Yannick Bolasie.
Whittaker has always had an eye for goal. He was treated poorly by successive managers (the club) and the owners presided over this then decided to cash in. He was not a team player, had a poor attitude & HE wanted out because he knew the manager at Plymouth would welcome him with open arms. The ownership even made a mess & lost money by recalling him from the original loan
Interesting that no club in this country showed much interest in Gyokeres except Coventry. He was let go on the cheap by Brighton. Piroe proved to be by far the better option for us
The club has spiralled continually downwards ever since the current owners took control. They have made a mess of just about everything that they have taken control of. Accept it. It is utterly shambolic & will continue to be while these clowns are in charge |  | | |
