Goalkeepers 21:25 - Apr 21 with 955 views | max936 | Watching Arsenal v Soton and Soton's keeper caught the ball in the air and first thought is to is the deck clutching the ball, its clearly a time wasting thing, you see the same thing in most games these days though, its definitely a practice that's caught on from the European teams, it has to be

Another one they used do was roll it out their hands dribble it back and for..then as player approached pick back up..not allowed to pick back up now,in direct free kick the ball has to be in play again first.. [Post edited 22 Apr 2023 6:49]

Yes but it was stopped when they introduced the law that goalkeepers should not hold the ball for more than 6 seconds . This now seems to be completely ignore by referees so goalkeepers stay on the ground that go on walkabout around their penalty area before kicking the ball.

If I remember correctly a few changes came in at the same time, 6 seconds, no picking it up after rolling it to the penalty spot but removed the limit of how many steps it could be carried. No picking up back passes was also brought in. I think there was something about goalkick could be taken from anywhere on the 6 yard line. Those are the ones I remember but there might be more. The idea was to stop the ball being played from keeper to full back to keeper to the other full back to keeper (repeat) for 80 minutes of the game once Arsenal had taken the lead
