Can Swansea City push on in the new year ? 9th Jan 2023 11:00
Jack Butty has steered his creaky old ship on to the rocks just off St Ives for his views on the current state of affairs at the swansea.com stadium. Just like Russell Martin he see’s not a lot out there imminently, but holds on to that glimmer of hope that there is time still to be rescued. 0

my humble opinion without a freshening up of the the players & managers' attitude and either a reconcilation of Obafemi & Patterson or fresh decent player brought in to replace said two I feel we'll drift into mid table mediocrity and be grateful for it

For me below 10th is not acceptable. Martin has promised development and growth. Every month of "work on the training ground" must benefit the team as a whole if is genuine good work. Every transfer window must benefit the team. Below 10th indicates the methodology is not working either from it being a poor methodology or poor implementation. (coaching). In this case management changes are appropriate. Minimum changing of back up staff.

Sloppy passing must be ended. It is part of the English leagues system but not the route Swansea are going down. Pass accuracy must be spot on and brain f@rts eradicated.

I do not want to hear of recurring "loss of intensity" "lack of energy" " the players were tired" "the players partied too much" (bizarrely). From the outside and interpreting comments made in Press conferences Martin must learn that cutting certain players slack does not work as they will kick you in the gut. It seems the penny may have dropped.

On the plus side i like to see in house players progressing like Benda, Ollie Cooper, Cullen, and Cabango. I accept that this may result in lower league position as their experience grows. Congreve and Cotterill have been seen match day squads with minutes here and there.

10-13th shows no progress and Martin will have to justify his methods as they are on the face of it not working.

7-10th shows progress. Development of academy players makes this a lower expectation range progress.

3-6th shows significant progress and demonstrates the ship is on the right course.

Even with 2-3 decent signing I predict 7-10th finish. This is where another 'visionary' Potter finished not quite making the play offs after an exciting but frustrating draw against Frank Lampard's Derby. Martin's academy imports are not as good as the ones Potter had and there is no Routledge.

The post season discussion will then be focused in improving implementation and execution of game plans rather than changing of game plans. A 'barking' assistant applying discipline might be useful to curtail those dozy moments that Latibeaudiere had in the first 20 second v Norwich with a pass 10 yard short. Manning repeated that sloppiness on Sunday.

We are a lower table championship team, and that's where I expect us to finish.

I can agree with a lot of that BUT brain farts will always happen and passes will go astray when under pressure. it's the nature of the game and that won't change.

If the worlds best players can make mistakes then so can ours. Mistakes aside what we really need is better decision making. No more silly, suicidal passes or Benda taking on defenders. Make the best choice in any circumstance and you start eliminating silly goals against us.

We are already mid table mediocrity. If there is no freshening up we will sink further down the league with continued inconsistency setting the tone for a bigger struggle next season

Can’t see it, we have too much class where it counts.

OK I've changed it.

To have any chance we must stop this suicidal football of playing out from the back.

Indeed so and it worries me that if we were to carry on as we are and in a relegation scrap, our esteemed coach would simply carry on as he is and 5at would see us down.
Anyone not believing we COUlD go down is nuts.
We are more likely to be in a relegation scrap than promotion. Nobody can seriously say that we could go up as we are. You could post it but it would be for forum consumption only .

I pray we stay up and somehow another club attracts him so he can make them a proper club too.

Our owners however are the biggest issue and always have been

Imo the owners are doing an excellent job, we are being run sustainably while many are running up debts they can't afford.

Take the negative blinkers off, we won't go down, deep down you know it, but it doesn't fit your narrative.

FA Cup run may affect our top six spot by Feb 20th. Give me an extra week.

I would be more than happy if we are top 8 and within 3 points of 6th going into the International break in March.

Push on from what, mediocrity? We need to be doing better than 1 win in 11. It's fortunate that the league this season is so poor or we would be down the bottom

W9ndet if there is a stat that shows how many goals we have conceded, after a sloppy pass around our own penalty area, this season.

One win in 11 suggests not.
Even 2 or 3 new players will not change where we are as a team.
Pushing on suggest further progress.
Progress is not where we are at if league positions are a yard stick.

Not sure how sustainably we are run at the moment if Silverstein and co keep having to put cash in, but you can imagine the rabid howls of protest if they stopped doing even that.

We're still highly unlikely to go down as you say, but it's hard to see things improving no matter who we bring in with such a dogmatic, inflexible and it would appear uptight manager. If we'd signed a player like Whittaker, most would be keen to see what he can do. Russy, having already written him off, receives the gift like a grenade with no pin in it.

Things have to change. Either RM's attitude and approach or RM himself. No matter how many people want to point the finger at Paterson and Obafemi, far too many players are finding themselves on the shitlist for it to be purely down to them. He's reminding me a lot of Garry Monk. Proud, unwilling to learn and able to carry ten times his bodyweight in grudges.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Sadly our league position, current form, class players at exit door, refusals to sign contract extensions, loan signings returning to their clubs, no movement in or out tells me you are a tad over optimistic. Certainly not enough class in this squad to put together a promotion charge … imo
