IMO mostly down to fuel costs. Reduce that reduce inflation.

It really has started to get noticeable.
Pay comes in, bills, mortgage etc go out, very little is being left over compared to this time last year and it is only going to get worse.
The next 12 months are going to be a horror for quite a lot of people.

Totally agree.
If the government were able to do what the French did and capped energy price rises to 4% it would have taken the sting out of much of what we are facing. The money spent on supporting council tax and electricity etc could have been put towards that. We as individuals are getting some help, but I read somewhere the cap on energy increases doesn’t apply to business, if that the case lots buisniesses are going to go to the wall.

The bottom line is that the Russians have proved themselves to be completely untrustworthy and the UK and Western Europe need to invest in alternative energy sources ASAP. I know their not popular, but the quickest way to getting more electric is likely to be off shore wind power.

It’s not only about producing more and lowering the price, if there was more focus on helping people have more energy efficient homes it would lower bills and reduce the amount of energy being produced this in turn helps the environment.

It just needs some out of the box and proactive thinking on a big scale.

I've pushed that idea too. The tories can give us 400 quid, it makes little difference but take the green levies and reduce VAT on fuel and it will help. Heck, if they only partly reduced it, 20% off my fuel is about 50 quid per month, 600 a year and that would reduce inflation too meaning I'd save elsewhere too.

Sunak is supposed to be very clever so unless he's really not, it makes him a very cynical person, he knows he can do more to help but doesn't go near the idea.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

When we moved into this house we knew it needed work and we've spent quite a bit, we had priorities but when what has happening became clearer we changed them, we have had new windows and a new front door, a new boiler happened last year. Our savings will be drained but our house will be much more efficient so hopefully our energy bills won't be as bad as the furst year when everyting leaked.

I've already told my wife, we're getting new fleecy blankets for downstairs! Full on Scrooge mode is coming!

It just needs some out of the box and proactive thinking on a big scale but these politicians won't do anything unless its for their benefit....I put it right for you

Exactly. The government has to pay civil servants more because of inflation, so reduce inflation by reducing fuel bills and save money there. This will also reduce business costs and reduce inflation in other areas. Otherwise the government and private employers will be chasing inflation with pay increases for years.

Factually 12 years of Tory mismanagement of the uk economy.

That includes Brexit for the hard of thinking, hugely damaging.

If you still think Brexit is about laws, borders, and money you are a fool.

This is what Brexit was about for the traitors who enabled it.
Self and greed.

Not surprising after a global shortage, global pandemic, global energy crisis, global shortage of oil, gas , and global shortage of grain due to Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Only the feeble minded and deluded would seek to blame Brexit.

Inflation soaring throughout the EU is that because of Brexit.

Most countries in the EU have a higher inflation rate than the UK and it is predicted to go even higher. Ireland currently 9.2%

EU average higher than UK.

To people at the bottom battening down the hatches means less eating and heating , to the majority of Tory party members who are deciding the next PM who are mostly well off white people living in the south of England it means spending 50 grand on a new SUV instead of 70 , the priority should be helping the poor through what looks like could be one of the worst financial periods ever , sunak talks sense , truss is an absolute wooden idiot

Talking about diversity, how many female Labour Prime Ministers have there been, the Conservatives could be getting their third. As for wealth Starmer is not doing so bad with a net worth of just under £8M.

I think the truth and the best thing is somewhere in between them. If one of them does all they want it won't help much. Truss goes too far, Sunak not far enough.

A lot more of the UK will suffer but Sunak is still saying he won't reduce taxes yet. It's not income tax or NI that's the problem, it's the green levies and VAT.

And then a video emerges that doesn't paint Sunak in a great light, actually it makes him look completely cynical to me, he took moeny from the poor to give to a better off area....aTory area?

Every Government has a shelf life. The current one appears to have reached theirs. Probably had at the time of the last election if we're being honest, but the alternative was absolutely horrific.

It'll be a weird recession, probably more of a technical one than an "actual" one. There's absolutely no shortage of available jobs so unemployment probably won't budge all that much, but growth will struggle due to inflation.

The current Govt absolutely must get it under control. If that takes large interest rate rises then so be it, but there needs to be some carrot alongside the stick so dilution of the green levies on energy needs to happen too.

The fact that most Western economies are struggling with the exact same issues won't stop the dippy types blaming Brexit even if conditions are mostly global and potentially far worse within the EU. Certainly in the long run questions need to be asked about the response to Covid and whether much of it was really necessary.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
