He performed in Bath on the 6th of December, started to feel ill on the 7th and never recovered.
What a voice & personality to lose.

It did state covid yesterday, at least that he tested positive a couple of weeks ago - but all references seem to have been removed.

It was announced before he died that he was in hospital suffering with COVID.
What the DM said the hospital said was that they turned off his Life Support.
Which seems a bit bizzare at his age, when last year they kept 90 year olds on life support for months and some of them even survived.

He could have suffered catastrophic organ failure I suppose.
