Must have been very difficult for The Ramones to concentrate on recording an LP in a studio when he was pointing a gun at them?
A brilliant producer with that 'wall of sound' production of his! Some hardcore Ramone's fans hated the more 'over-produced' mulit-layered/multi-overdubbed stuff, that was rather different to their earlier stuff. Raw and primitive when compared to Spector's standards ... I loved it!

A music genius, but a nasty piece of work otherwise.
Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

many geniuses are nasty people.
many nice people are talentless
People tend to follow talent rather than individual.
I loved Jerry Lee Lewis , and Chuck Berry but wouldnt have wanted them to come for a dinner party
Another absolute nutter was Sid Vicious, fame tends to go before the crime(s)! Many forget his crimes? A nasty piece of work who blinded one girl in one eye at a gig with a glass, attacked an NME music journalist with a bike chain, hit a guy over the head with a bass guitar, attacked another guy with a broken bottle and murdered his girlfriend with a knife.
A well known nutter and weapon attacker he truly was.
*Edit* He had no talent!

The other three that ended up as session musicians, including the bassist he replaced were not as talentless as media/papers described.... Sid Vicious was brought into the group because he looked the part, he was of basic ability and when loaded with heroin utterly cr@p.

I read Steve Jones was rated highly which shows how drugs are so prevalent in contempoary music.
If Neil Young or Dylan were starting out now, they d be hung out to dry for not being able to play or sing .
Music is always subjective but the greats of music leave a positive legacy and the Pistols is not a musical one more a cultural one although people would disagree.

The fact that Young, Dylan and a myriad of other older performers are still selling records, touring and picking up a younger generation of fans may go some way of dispelling your theory . Young's been selling albums in one form or another for 50 years ,and that cannot be based on substance abuse . Dylan is an acquired taste and except for one or two not one of my favorites singers but again still going . I agree the Pistols maybe remembered more for the cultural impact they and others had in the mid 70's when disco was king but from them spawned another genre and direction of music which at the time was needed.

Things might have been so different if he was called Sid Niceandcuddly.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Indeed so, there is opinion that the guy had an urge to live up to his surname. It would have been beneficial to have changed his name to that or to Sid Lovely or maybe even gone double-barreled i.e. Sid Bunny Wunny.
The lady in the video at 2:16s met Sid when he was obviously in the mood to live up to his name Vicious.
