This is part of a wider issue and business rates have a major part to play in the downfall of the High Street. It can’t be right that small shops are being hammered on business rates, pay tax etc while large multinationals avoid the latter and endeavour to strike deals to avoid or minimise the business rates.

I am no Sports Direct fan, but we need a comprehensive review of our taxation and structure around business rates.
