I saw this question raised recently (apologies if it's already been done on here) and I think it's certainly one of the toughest music questions around. Favourite band, song and album questions are often asked and we've all got our own answers pretty much ready, but what about if you could only ever listen to one group or artist from now on, who would it be and why? There's alot to take into account as the final answer may not be your favourite band or be the group of your favourite album. IMO, you need to take into account longevity and consistency because you want to listen to as many quality songs as possible and also bear in mind which band/songs evoke the best memories. I am no music oficianado by any stretch of the imagination, I've enjoyed plenty of everything over the years and my final choice probably reflects the fact I've been out of the country for over a decade and as such I'm in a musical time warp but my final choice would have to be Queen. Why? For me 15 years of great music, varying in sound and style over that period with many, many classics many of which evoke good memories and of good times. Lots of quality live material available as well and just what I would call "Good Mood" music which would be another reason for choosing them if I could only ever listen to one group.
So if you could only listen to one group or artist from now on who would it be and why?
Oh man! Tough! It'd have to be an eclectic band/person....The Beastie Boys, Beatles, Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention, James Brown, Aphex Twin, Plaid gah too many, if i couldnt hear Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix anymore I'd be sad...and now I'll be listening to tunes all night pissing off the mrs..!
I'll go with Beethoven for the sake of an answer here!

They started off as a hard core punk band. Their first two albums blew up and are wall-of-sound furious. They mellowed a bit over the next few albums and play a lot more melodious and balanced music. In the last few years they have released accoustic versions of some of their early stuff which are great mellow soft rock songs. Overall, they are great song writers (mostly the lead singer writes the songs, but a couple of the other band members have chipped in with some good ones too).
Their musical range isn't huge -- it goes from hard core punk, to rock, to guitar-pop, to soft rock. But that covers enough moods from angry, happy, mellow, dancey, and singalong.
The Beatles. I dont really know why as i'm not a massive fan but do like the music. My dad on the other hand is a massive fan so i was brought up on it. Its probably a sub conscience thing , they've always been there in my mind somewhere.
Occasional providers of half decent House music.

It has to be the Beatles for me. I wonder how many current acts will still have their stuff played and enjoyed in 50 years time.
Saw Joan Baez at the Sydney Opera House a few weeks ago, pure magic. Great singer, at 73 she has lost a little, great venue and a great night was had by all. About 5 encores. Beatle Stones Small Faces and many others.
Good to see Ozrics get a mention....I remember going to see them reguarly back in the late 80's long before they started shagging other band members wives. Lost interest after Erpland if I recall? which I can't
Psycho killer Qu'est-ce que c'est?

Its easy for me. It'd be Stiff Little Fingers.

Great call Dylan. SLF for me too. Inflammable material was a life changer for me. And although reluctant at first, Go for it is one of my all time favourite albums.
I also love the bizarre variety of the clash. Big cure fan up to and including disintegration (even Stan from south park gave it the thumbs up)
And a nod to the op, sheer heart attack was the first album I ever bought and I still listen to it now
It's got to be Yarg

loved the Jam, but for me has to be the Clash. Five official albums, one of which one the Rolling Stone magazine album of the 80's, (London Calling), which was a double LP, the raw ener of the debut album, the excellent, but often difficult for many bands, second album, the sheer diversity of Sandanista which at the same time also saw the uniqueness of being a triple LP and finally the final album, Combat Rock. Ignore This is England, the Clash had gone by then in real terms. And then you have Clash on Broadway box set with some previously unreleased material and a number of live LP's. Great band, great energy, oh and Mick Jones is a Ranger.
Not because its in anyway professional or very musically well written. Just the sheer fact I managed to create something that I really enjoy and Id miss not hearing them again.
Has to be The Beatles for their breadth and variety. Four years from Love Me Do to Strawberry Fields Forever. Astonishing. Some artists don't manage to release a single bloody album in that time.
Runner up would be Beirut, who are mining a seam that nobody else seems much bothered with - Balkan folk, French chansons, mariachi music

I forgot to add "Yes" to the list, which proves how hard it is to be consistent.
I'd bung them in at number 6 , as I've got "I See You" playing on iTunes whilst I look through LFW.
Like terraces the age of great individual music is buried in the past.
Disagree about good music being in the past. There are always great bands and songs being made, you just have to find them. The older you get the harder it is to find them because my lifestyle is less conducive. By that I mean, I don't go to clubs much anymore and I don't sit around at friends houses listening to music. But if you keep your ears open, good stuff is around. I discovered a great Ska band just recently called Chaz and the Day Laborers. They put their first album out on vinyl and you can't get it on CD, even though none of the band members look old enough to know what a record player does.
