does anyone else not want us to win on saturday? 18:39 - Nov 13 with 7588 viewsTauntonR

I have supported QPR since 1974 - a few highs and a few more lows and for the first time in all those years i am actually contemplating that in the best interests of our beloved club that it would be best for us not to win . is that sacrilege ? is it wrong to have such thoughts ., Say we scraped a 2-1 win MH stays - we lose against mu -ok we always lose there anyway - MH stays - we get a draw with sunderland , villa and wigan - with improved perfomances - ok results for a team bottom of the league - but we would be mid december with 10 points on the board and MH at the helm - that is a realsitic scenario if we win on saturday . am i wrong not to want us to win on saturday ?

A moral dilemma indeed. Depends whether you answer yes or no more often with the following questions:

Do you want Mark Hughes to be sacked?
Do you think he will be sacked if we lose to Southampton?
Do you think Mark Hughes is actually the problem here?
Do you think we stand a better chance of survival by changing the manager?
Can we afford to drop three points on offer on Saturday?
Do you think there are potential replacements out there who will do a better job than Hughes?
Do you think there are potential replacement out there who will not harm the club in the long term if appointed?
Can the team's morale and confidence recover from a home defeat by Southampton all things considered?

Do you want Mark Hughes to be sacked? Never wanted him, said it here at the time - no need to sack Warnock. so yes,
Do you think he will be sacked if we lose to Southampton? Yes
Do you think Mark Hughes is actually the problem here? Yes
Do you think Hughes would turn it round given more time? No
Do you think we stand a better chance of survival by changing the manager? Yes
Do you think the three points on offer on Saturday will be important in the shake up at the end of the season? No
Do you think there are potential replacements out there who will do a better job than Hughes? Yes, anyone
Do you think there are potential replacement out there who will not harm the club in the long term if appointed? No
Do you think a home defeat against Southampton, and the inevitable fans backlash, could harm the team's morale and confidence irreparably? No, they don't care less

Hang on, sorted the questions now. More yes = you'd rather we lost, more no = you'd rather we won.

And well, to the op, no. Regardless of what happens on Saturday I'd expect TF to decide whether MH stays - win or lose. We could play sht and disjointed and win and MH could still lose his job, with a strong TF.

3pts and don't give a toss about the style in which we do it - couple of deflections or own goals will do me fine.
Lets see Adkins depart and arrival of whatever international dream team they replace him with.

Much though I believe Hughes has now lost the plot and is totally clueless regarding how to rescue QPR, I cannot wish for anything other than a win on Saturday.

Part of me wants us to lose in the hope that this would mean Tony F would sack Hughes, as this appears to be the only way we can arrest this disastrous form.

But I would rather we win, if that means Hughes stays then so be it, Hopefully this will kick start the team into a winning habit to allow us to survive.

I just cant want us not to win on Saturday

i am actually in guernsey until jan but think thehairy dog in minhead is a good bet .any guernsey r's around at the moment?

Ah what a shame, I lived there for 4 yrs, the missus is from there, we left in Jan to live in New Zealand.

There was only 1 other QPR fan on the island when I was there, go to the Vazon Cafe and see the owner, long curly haired man called Nick. There should be a QPR Calender on the wall with a few other bits as well.

What you up to in Guernsey?

Going to QPR hoping we lose is unthinkable. I still think his exit is inevitable and imminent. Perhaps a win on Saturday will make the Fulham game more significant than it already is.

Do you want Mark Hughes to be sacked?
Don't want any manager sacked but the threshold where it becomes inevitable is fast approaching.

Do you think he will be sacked if we lose to Southampton?
Not necessarily. TF adores him. Fear fans may turn on TF if he survives though.

Do you think Mark Hughes is actually the problem here?
He's built an embarrassingly unbalanced squad and can't organise a defence. That said, individual player mistakes are as much to blame z

Do you think we stand a better chance of survival by changing the manager?
Nope. Relegation struggle (fruitless one at that IMO) regardless.

Can we afford to drop three points on offer on Saturday?
Nope.

Do you think there are potential replacements out there who will do a better job than Hughes?
Yes.

Do you think there are potential replacement out there who will not harm the club in the long term if appointed?
Yes.

Can the team's morale and confidence recover from a home defeat by Southampton all things considered?
The few that give a shit would take some nurturing. Sadly the majority don't give a shit. £££££££.

Had this conversation with a few on twitter a few days back.

I was of the thinking that I never want us to lose , but I would take a draw if it meant Hughes being sacked and either Redknapp or another coming in.

Other "fans" failed to grasp the point that i am trying to make, and jumped on their high horses, preaching their untouchable loyalty against mine.

More important than 3 points on saturday, is the future of our club, the importance of remaining in the premier league, which i think will be greatly improved if hughes is sacked.

NOT getting 3 points against Soton on Saturday WON'T relegate us.... Keeping an inept manager who cannot motivate a squad as talented as ours WILL.

I appreciate that I haven't given many straight answers, but there is too much uncertainty to be definite.

I want us to win on Saturday. I don't care how scrappily. I still believe one win could kick start a revival. And I'm not convinced that, if we fail to beat Southampton, any manager could come in and turn the situation around quickly enough to avoid a disastrous relegation.

This is some bullsh*t, jingoistic thread, following on from sentiments expressed in other recent threads. I think the thrust of the argument is something along the lines of "You might want Hughes out and would welcome that even if it means us losing against Soton, but if that means you want us to lose, you aren't a true QPR supporter".

Well, how many of us have wanted to lose a cup game, to concentrate on the league? Let's concentrate on the bigger picture.

I want us to win this weekend, but it better be a bloody convincing win. A scrape-over-the-line win, perpetuating Hughes' reign, without demonstrating any significant improvement in our chances of survival would be disastrous. (If we win convincingly, and I mean really playing well (2+ goal margin), then I have to give him more time).

Hughes has to demonstrate that he's got it together (and, to be fair, that means that he has managed to get the team to get it together), or f*ck off.

^^^^ Well put, shame others cannot see that we are looking out for long term success rather than short term failure under Hughes

I always want us to win no matter what. There can never be a good side to us losing..

At the end of Briatore's reign I wanted us to lose. To be honest I found it odd that so many could still enjoy seeing us win given what was happening to the club. And I think us getting done by Bolton at the start of the following season was just what we needed to turn the crowd against him and get him to sell up.
However, I still have some hope for this season and would love it if we could get a decent confidence building win on Saturday. Anything less than 3 points though and I think he has to go.

What? Really? People actually want their team to lose?

Myabe there's confusion with seeing a bit of a positive angle if we lose to stop the rot but I think everyone WANTS us to win every match. Even cup games.

Losing is for losers, by definition.

I want us to murder them on saturday and spit out their semi-gnawed marrowless bones.
I then want us to build an ossuary with the bones of other teams who had the folly of turning up at Loftus Road.

We'll probably draw though

In an ideal world we will murder southampton on saturday (5/6 - 0) and it will signal a turn of fortunes for our season.

I dont like hughes much but maybe there is no-one available who can do a better job at the mo???

Having said all that I honestly believe we wil NOT win on saturday. (I think our team is very predictable at the mo!).
I know Tony has backed him totaly up to this point, but if we dont win against southampton i honestly believe hughes will be gone (one way or t'other).

I want a win. For me, whoever is in charge we are now extremely likely to get relegated anyway based on history and probabilities, so I'd rather have a win. Plus, I do actually think that one win might just give the players a boost, which is badly needed. Even tho we'll lose at OT and at Sunderland (QPR up north on a Tue night in cold conditions? ermmm) I still think 3 points on the board will give us some belief and Hughes has shown in the past he can build on that.
But I also am positive that if we do not win, he'll be sacked or will resign.

Bare bones.

I pretty much agreed with all of your answers. I still cannot see much point in changing the manager at this stage.

Yes as a team for the majority of matches we have been sh1t. However there are plenty of teams in and around us who are also likely to struggle all season. We cannot surely play any worse than we have done so far. There are still plenty of points to play for. It also worth bearing in mind that if we win on Saturday we will move to within 2 points of villa who are away to City this weekend and home to Arsenal the next. Things can only get better......hopefully.

No, I do not want us to lose on Saturday.

Yes, it is sacrilidge for you to want us to lose.

If you want us to lose, you are either not a fan (just a troll trying to wind us up), you have a screw loose, you have forgotten the actual goal of the season and are focussing too much on interim tactics, or you are a moron. Sorry to be blunt, but that is how I see it.

Ther eis one exception to that. The exception is, if you are god and can actually forsee the future, then go ahead and proclaim away.

But assuming that you are not god, lets look atr what this is all about. We started the season with the goal of avoiding relegation and ending up midtable. the reason we are concerned about Hughes is that it looks like he isn't going to get us close to our goal for the seaosn and that relagation would be a complete disaster for the club. Changing manager would be a idsaster for the club (albeit less of a disaster than relegation and therefore a preferably course of events). However, either way changing manager would be a disaster and while it might solfve critical short-term problems, it would leave the club with deep long-term problems. Firing the manager is a tactic and not the goal here.

You have laid out a possible sceario. It is one possibility. Another possibility is that a win on Saturday is the jump-strat that the team needs and leads to a seies of back-to-back wins taht leads to us achieving or goal. Tha tmight seem unlikely, but I have seen exactly that happen before in football, so it is not out of the question. As we aree all just making assumptions and guessing, it is best to want what is best for the club and not assume that the possibilities that jump into our heads are written-in-stone truths.

The only thing we know for sure is that a win is better than a loss. So get behind the team. Cheer them on to a win. And then hope like hell that the win the firdst step in us reaching our goal. The rest is in the hands of the footballing gods.
