The US army has been in Europe for 80 year training and testing and ready at any moment to act. 1944 to 2025 more or less.
In 2025 after 80 years of training they decide it is a good time to withdraw just after Russian tanks have warmed up. Worse than that the Ukrainians have at least halved the Russian threat for them for which they get no thanks.

Finland has joined but are not Slavic peoples. They are now very close. Putin is more concerned about the EU. That is why it kicked off in 2014. EU talks not NATO.
He want to see Slavic peoples under his control and serfdom. He does not care about Finns. He wanted the whole of Ukraine but will settle for 20% with US help perhaps? His army has been smashed.
Getting the Russians out of Donetsk was always a big ask. All Ukraine's energy should be on the Crimea which is vulnerable. Russia had the harbour but Ukraine can take out ships anytime they like. It is effectively no use to Russia. | |

If Russia put a big ship there Ukraine can sink it at will. The Kerch bridge is more difficult it seems. I have to admit the Russians seem to have it protected.

What are they going to sink it with? They will protect the Crimea at all costs as it's so strategically important. It's a continuation of the great game , which Britain and Russia fought over in the 19th century. I also believe the population there want to remain Russian as the Ukraine shut off the water supply to them and Russia had to restore it.

The current regime’s viewpoint is that of America first and they don’t see any value for America in giving away hundreds of billions of dollars to keep a never ending war of attrition going. They are also reluctant to risk the lives of American servicemen by sending them into war zones that have nothing to do with them.
This is refreshing in a way. I and many others have criticised America for acting recklessly as the world police for decades. Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, all hugely misjudged actions that just left American (and British and European) people poorer and in many cases their sons and brothers unnecessarily dead.
It’s not cowardice it’s pragmatism.
The difficulty is not even America can stop Putin militarily despite his forces being completely impotent, ill trained, lacking motivation and being generally useless because of the nuclear threat. American boots on the ground firing at Russians will only lead to one thing. Mutually assured destruction for all of us. |  |

They can stop Russia easily with propper budget kit and training. The Russian milliary is pathetic and while improving a little cannot take Ukraine.
Scott Ritter said when they took Bahkmut Donbass would fall rapidly. In two years they have progressed about the distance of Swansea to Neath. Imagine that?
They lose 50,000 men to take the equivalent of Skewen. This is with an underfunded Ukrainian milliary opposing them. This is unsustainable economically and politically. [Post edited 3 Mar 14:46]
