Wind power is important 17:52 - Feb 23 with 1915 viewsReslovenSwan1

Right wing people hate wind power for some reason. Everyone knows It does not blow everyday and it can go several days without wind. Germans call it 'Dunkelflaute'.

You can follow the percentage of (I presume) electricity generation with this app.

https://www.energydashboard.co.uk/live

Close in 50% wind power. Welsh does not get it's fair share of the generation fees to help us become economically self sustainable.

Only 20 Billion barrels of oil at 317kg of CO2 per barrel. That's 6.34 Trillion Kgs of C02.

Over the term of the BP contract that's equivalent to half of what the UK produces in the way of CO2 in each year of the contract.

So a UK company has just agreed to increase CO2 by the equivalent of 50 percent of what the UK produces

A standard barrel of oil weighs around 136kg?

I'm no chemist, but it appears that each carbon atom attracts two oxygen atoms when the fuel is used to produce CO2, so increasing the mass.

The vast majority use gas for heating. I don't know anyone who doesn't.

Heat pumps are rubbish btw, expensive to install too. It would take years to get your money back

Same here. I did know someone who converted to electric radiatorsā€¦spent a fortune converting back to gas after the first winterā€¦.and bill!
Heat pumps may be good for new builds with walls and ceilings about three foot thick with insulated materials. To me however it is yet another Govt con along the lines of gas is best for heating and less pollutingā€¦diesel is the best fuel compared to petrol etc.

There's a common theme here , farming and the dismantling of it , we'll be seeing the return of famines if the have their way ,a way to separate those and the have nots . If a so called civilised country such as ours can blatantly remove financial help from its elderly ,make it financially unattractive to save, promote food banks as if its an acceptable way of life for many ,then we do have a problem .

North of 40k to buy an EV , no decent power points to recharge at a ridicolous low range .

Sorry , will continue to fuel up at the petrol pump unless a useful alternative is found .

Mini it seems is pulling out of the UK market sales , not selling enough green cars .

Planning to go hybrid with my next car, but there's no way I'd buy an EV until they can fully recharge in about five minutes, or I have no alternative.

Have you looked at leasing?
The polestar has a range of 360 miles so with a home charge at an ev rate of 6 pence a kwh you could be paying 6Ā£ for 600 miles as opposed to my car which does about 35 miles to a gallon which is about Ā£6.50

They won't do 360 miles in reality. not when the heater , lights, A/c is working. Likely get just half

The Dacia Spring is around 15k but the same problems apply. Thing is, I got my car second hand for 8k and accounting for my mileage and the other 7k for the Srping, the costs aren't so different for the 4 years I'll have this car. The big difference is on a cold day I can have the heating on and not worry about the mileage.

Then, why would I buy a second hand Ev knowing that it may only be 24 months away from needing a new battery that costs as much as my seond hand petrol car did?

By the time EV's are the only choice the technology and infratsructure needs to have improved a lot and hopefully by then, I'll have given up driving anyway. I'm almost 58.

There are a number of sources that qualify the real driving figures. The first one I pulled "For those in the UK interested in real-world range for the Polestar 4 DM, I just finished a trip of 226 miles from Bristol to London and back which used 75% of the battery, implying a total range of 301 miles. This was at an ambient temperature of around 10Ā°C, in range mode and using pilot assist most of the time."
There was a driving challenge where a number of EV's went out and drove until they "died". The journalists were amazed by the Polestar 4's range.
They calculated that the car was getting 3.5 miles to the kwh which is how I was working out how much it would cost to travel so far compared to the ICE version.
