After the CV questions. there is now a bit of a flap about Rachel Reeves' "Who's Who" entry. Following a Times investigation it seems that this repeats the incorrect information about the length of time she worked at the Bank of England, and also contains a misleading claim to a prestigious journal publication. This is perhaps not the greatest of sins, but would have been considered very naughty if she had been applying for an academic post.

That's why they don't raise a peep , too busy searching for some weak argument to justify what labour are doing .

I don’t think anyone has tried to defend it.

Unfortunately it’s representative off all our politicians sadly but in the scheme of things, Im more interested in other current events to give it much time.

The one thing is will say and it doesn’t make it any better, is the flack Reeves is getting is massive for what she’s done compared to what Zahawi got for forgetting to pay millions seems stark.

I also don’t like the casual misogyny in calling her Rachel from Accounts. I appreciate I'm probably a lone voice on here in thinking that.

The usual "suspects for the use of a better word , have remained silent as they do about most negative matters concerning this government and as they say silence is golden ,its sometimes not what you say but what you don't say.

What if it was Robert from accounts would that sit better with you? She's a women, she worked in accounts, a pretty accurate description , so what is misogynist about that ? that to me is taking the mick of someone so deserving of the disdain she receives .
You come across as a professional honest person ,so would you apply for a post knowing that you had embellished/lied to your peers with a CV or entries into Linkedin, if a person is willing to lie about something so basic then what else would they be prepared to they lie about.

IMO this is serious because Labour were going to be a shining light where integrity would be first and foremast in their thinking and if not taken seriously how then can they expect the voter to believe them in anything they say.
Starmer had a chance to set an example ( although with himself that bar is low already) but didn't hoping this would go away but it hasn't .

She can't help herself

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has been forced to issue a correction after wrongly claiming wages had risen at their fastest rate since the Labour Party took power following last year's General Election.

The Treasury stepped in at lunchtime to amend what it called an "error" in the Chancellor's earlier statement to the press, clarifying that wages after inflation are growing at their fastest rate in three years, rather than at record levels as initially suggested.

In her initial statement, Reeves had declared: "Getting more money in peoples pockets is my number one mission. Since the election we've seen year on year wages after inflation growing at their fastest rate worth an extra £1,000 a year on average"

"In a free society, the State is the servant of the people—not the master."

I can’t stand LinkedIn as it’s full of this kind of CV rubbish.

Can you name any former chancellors that have been given a derogatory nickname used as much as the one given to Reeves?

On reflection, misogynistic is probably the wrong word in this context. Sexist fits better.

This is the best I can do on Chancellor nicknames. Gwyn may have underestimated how nasty politicians are to each other. Are any worse than Rachel's?

Geoffrey Howe = Mogadon Man.
Denis Healey = Pug
Nigel Lawson = Smuggins
Norman Lamont ?
Ken Clarke = Ken the Zen (based on something Bercow said about his zen-like calm).
Gordon Brown = ‘The Big Clunking Fist’ (from Blair)
Alistair Darling ?
George Osborne = “The Submarine” (because he dives from sight at the first sign of trouble).
Sajid Javid = CHINO ( name coined by Dom Cummings to mean chancellor in name only because of his alleged lack of control over the economy).

Kwasi Kwarteng was nicknamed “KamiKwarsi”. Was that racist?

We all know what Jeremy hunt was regularly called on live tv and that wasnt an accident.

Gordon Brown was known as all sorts, “clunking fist” and “Bottler Brown”.

Incompetent politicians get nicknames. It’s satire not a hate crime.

“Rachel from accounts” is a pisstake of her lack of ability and her (self inflicted) over stating of her past experiences not the fact she has ovaries.

If we can’t take the piss out of our failing politicians for being useless then what do we have left?

The latest rumoured whizz from Rachel is to cut the ISA annual deposit limit from £20K to £4K. Hope this doesn't happen as I wanted to transfer the full amount in April having been hit hard with an end-of-year tax adjustment demand for the last year, as savings interest rates have gone up. Unclear whether this is investment ISAs as well as cash ISAs, and of course the rumoured change may not happen at all.

I only can really go far back as Lamont. I don’t recall any of those nicknames being used as frequently.

This forum goes back a while, should it be fair to say the one for Reeves has been the one most used on here?

I disagree.

It’s possible to give nicknames based on competence without referring to sex, race, gender or age.

The nicknames provided by AJ prove that.

Basically it’s called he a secretary.

Demeaning her role on the basis of gender.

I’ve seen noting on this thread that’s comparable in that a nickname purely used to denigrate by using something not directly linked to competence.

Also having used this forum a long time I’ve certainly not seen a nickname on here used with such frequency.

That’s my point, Rayns,

I’ve no issue with that as it’s just based on his ability. If it was linked to his sex or his race etc. I’d be saying the same thing.

I feel the same about Angela Raynor. Comment on her competence by all means, but why should we she put up with the barbs about her appearance?

We want the brightest and best to go into politics and some of those will be women. They don’t need any additional barriers.
