Grimes for Wales on 18:10 - Feb 11 with 817 views | SullutaCreturned | For years now I have criticised Grimes, I have said he was part of the problem not the solution so it may surprise a few that I think this is a good move. I descrined Grimes as the player to come on for the last 20 when you are 2 nil up (and O'Brien as the player you need to start to have a chance of 2 nil) and for me, that's where he's needed for Wales. How many times have Wales looked promising, been in front even but thrown it away through naivete? Grimes on the bench for Wales makes sense to me. I wouldn't see him playing very much, certainly not a regular starter but he could be a very handy squad member. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

Grimes for Wales on 11:08 - Feb 11 by pencoedjack | Yes, anyone who is really honest knows that any English-born player good enough to play for England would. Ashley Williams, for example, if he were good enough to have played for England without doubt, would of played for the country of his birth. Bale seems a passionate Welshman who I couldn't imagine would of changed ranks; the likes of Giggs probably would of chosen the more lucrative England route, especially as he grew up in Manchester. Personally, I could never believe a true Welshman could play for England, but money & the lucrative deals it brings seem to be the driving force for some footballers. It's quite laughable the hate for England by the usual suspects who welcome English players into our international side when they qualify because their gran was born in Prestatyn. |

Managing a winger with a hamstring issue who had to change to a different role for Man utd and look after his injury issue luckily an intelligent player, "football wise", able to adapt his game. Hamstring injuries for wingers is like the kiss of death which can end top flight careers, look at Montero, didn't Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler suffer also because of them. Yes I think Sir Alex did have a big say in things that in the end extended Gigg's career for both Man U and Wales. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

It was a gift to the English FA to poach the elite Welsh Scottish and Irish players. All the best players are in the Premier league and all Premier league teams are in England. This plan would offer Wales the " best of the rest". Players like Wes Burns Nathan Broadhead, Ollie Cooper and Liam Cullen. We have plenty of this level of player. With a good manager they can get results. | ![](/images/avatars/27402.gif) |

No - it depends what you feel in your heart. These boys are rich already. Wales and England both never win anything. Dai Brooks, for example, was picked by both nations, but chose Wales cos he had promised his grandfather. Osian told him to try England camp to be sure. He did and he was. Welsh players are treated like heroes. The best can get around 100 caps. English players hounded by their toxic media and you only get a few games unless you are an exception like Gazza or Rooney. | ![](/images/avatars/9736.gif) |

It is about being pragmatic. Williams wore his Welshness on his sleeve and flourished. Others would play only if guarenteed a fist team place. The American keeper Myhill retired after he could not dislodge Hennessy. Dummett the same. Brooks was a star at u21 but still chose Wales and belies your statement that all English born players would chose England. Each individual is different. It is easier to get to final these days via Wales not England for example because competition for England is fierce. I suspect Scotland and NI saw the plan had ups and downs and blocked the move. The FAW would have allowed English to cream off best players using cash benefits. Koumas, Crew ars Welsh player that gave been scoured by England but stayed loyal. | ![](/images/avatars/27402.gif) |

'Yes, anyone who is really honest knows that any English-born player good enough to play for England would.' Obviously you misread the post, or you believe David Brooks would get into the England side As I also said, 'Personally, I could never believe a true Welshman could play for England.' You are calling me an idiot and you are ignorant. There was nothing impolite about my post at all. I will engage with anyone and treat individuals with respect. Brooks played for England u21 and was player of the Tournament at Toulon. England wanted him in their camp. He chose Wales instead. Each individual is different. There are no fixed rules. I have contested you quote given an example for you to assess and then called an idiot. Hey ho. Health issues means he is struggling to be first choice for Wales | ![](/images/avatars/27402.gif) |

Koumas...England...get serious mun Now Brooks, taken from wiki, On 15 May 2017, he was called up to the Wales U20 squad for the 2017 Toulon Tournament. He later withdrew from the Wales setup, instead being called up to the England U20 squad for the same tournament.[39] England won the tournament and Brooks was given the Best Player award, having scored in the Final.[40] | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

He came back saying i want to play for Wales. Play for Wales and be a hero, or play for Ingerlund and be abused by press and fans alike. Dear me, you talk some guff https://talksport.com/football/1366271/bournemouth-david-brooks-comeback-aston-v Ferguson was born in Ireland; why wouldn't he play for them? He can't get in Brighton's side, so he hasn't got a chance of playing for England the same as Brooks, Koumas, & the others you & the other English hater mentioned. | ![](/images/avatars/9450.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
