Why is it so hard getting immigration numbers down? on 07:13 - Jan 21 by Dr_Winston | They spent 14 years whinging that previous Governments didn't spend enough. They also spent the entire pandemic complaining that Government measures weren't tough or long lasting enough. Their first acts in Government (other than jailing people longer for social media posts than some get for rape) were to raise taxes on employment and start driving non-dom taxpayers abroad. 9500 millionaires are expected to leave the UK this year. Mobile wealth is upping sticks, and it'll be the working classes who are left having to cover the shortfall. For reference, someone earning £200k will pay roughly £82k in tax annually. It would take seventeen people earning the average UK salary of £37k to replace one of them, yet apparently they're parasites who need to be taxed more according to people who think like Rachel from Customer Services. If this had anything to do with trickle down you might have a point. But is isn't, so you don't. Squeeze mobile wealth hard enough and it will relocate. Then taxes on poor people need to be raised to pay for these services. It's a basic economic fact that has played out plenty of times, including in this country.

The Republic of Ireland is a prime example. GDP has risen because of the decision of certain multi-national to locate there, but ordinary people still struggle to get access to affordable housing and healthcare. Of course, the RoI government knows that if it taxes the rich - in the shape of the corporations - excessively they will re-locate. It was the low tax regime that attracted them. If the EU tightens the rules on corporation tax and fair competition further then Ireland will struggle. Trump is also taking an interest and the move of US companies to Ireland for the tax advantages, and is muttering about tariffs.

I have tried explaining that the RoI is basically a tax haven for corporate greed and many millions in tax that should be paid here gp to the RoI. All of that is made possible by the EU's rules and thought tye have tried to change those tax rules, the tax haven members keep vetoing it, for obvious reasons. Where Kilky is right though, trickle down doesn't work, it just doesn;t happen.

The gap between rich and poor has never been greater, so what we have is trickle up

Why is it so hard getting immigration numbers down? on 21:18 - Jan 22 with 223 views | Dr_Winston | I am fairly confident that the current gap between rich and poor is significantly smaller than it was when, say, William the Conqueror was worth the equivalent of £230bn and the local serfs were shitting into their local streams, or perhaps during the Victorian era when 10 year olds were being sent up chimneys for a living. This nonsense is easy enough to say on social media and there's plenty of people out there who will believe it, but in reality it doesn't stand up to more than about 20/30 seconds of actual investigation.

Well nobody cares about Willy mun Between 2011 and 2019, the average UK household’s wealth grew by about £4,000, according to new analysis of official statistics that we at the Fairness Foundation commissioned recently. Those in the poorest 10% of households continue to have no wealth at all – many are in debt. By contrast, the average person in the top 10% of households was £280,000 wealthier over this period. It’s a stark contrast and we found that, overall, the wealth gap in the UK has grown by 50% over these eight years. And thats the rub see ….

Why is it so hard getting immigration numbers down? on 21:47 - Jan 22 with 206 views | Dr_Winston | Yes, people pushing the "the gap between rich and poor has never been bigger!!" guff tend not to care about fairly obvious evidence that they're talking total bollocks. Tell us something that we don't already know.
