Because we have dolts waving placards " welcome" ?

There is an interesting section on "the immigration lobby". Worth reading the report (downloadable pdf).

It suits certain right wing politicians, like Trump in the States, to keep this problem going because it guarantees then votes.
They want to cry about it but they dont care enough to fix it.

Fast processing is essential, then they can feck off home or work.
Currently these men are not allowed to work and the processing takes months.
This could have been paid for with the £300 million handed to Rwanda for nothing.
But johnson thought it was funny …so thats ok then …

300 million wouldn't get anywhere near what is needed to do what you suggest. I do agree though, fast processing would be a much better way to help start the process.

Our politicians are hamstrung by their own uneptitude and fear though, they don't listen to the majority, they listen to their "special advisors" (people like Cummings) and the chattering classes who don't have to live with the problems caused by uncontrolled immigration.

The Overton window has shrunk, there are many things we are not allowed to debate, not just in politics. On this website, on whatsapp groups, the people in charge won't allow true freedom of speech anymore because there's always someone looking to be upset and insulted. The government is worse of all. The government is worse of all, dare to suggest that uncontrolled immigration is a genuine problem and you are usually decried as a racist. Those people always quick to assume that when you talk about immigration it is always about black people. They cannot see the bigger picture, or they refuse to.

The last time I saw an estimate it was that there's upwards of one million illegals in this country, it's a tad more than 300 quid each to sort them out, it'd probably cost more than that just to track some of them down.

Because huge swathes of the civil service, legal profession and governing classes aren't affected by it. If they were it would stop quickly.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I was trying to say the money could have gone towards sorting it rather than spaffed in Rwanda. My bad - i was not meaning to suggest that money would fix the whole thing.

I have never had any issues with free speech on this website.

You say “fast processing” as if that’s a simple thing to achieve. But how do you process thousands and thousands of people quickly when many of them have thrown their identity papers into the English Channel and are claiming to be 12 year old children when they clearly aren’t? We have no idea who they are, where they’ve come from, their previous history. How do you process that?

Raising the population supposedly “grows the economy” which as we know is the governments number one priority so they have no interest in stopping millions of people coming here from god knows where. As long as they get their 0.1% of growth they don’t care about the driving down of wages, increased pressure on vital services, increase in sexual crimes etc.

Well if you dont process them them they get to stay.

Yes will take resources, but thats money well spent compared to the alternative.

Lets see how Trump gets on rounding the illegals up in the States.
More expensive than promptly processing them.
And will it even work ?

I think the sooner politicians step away from the idea of eternal growth the better because it just isn't possible.

Surely we need debt to be brought under control and have a stable economy with very little variance, say +/- 2% as a norm, as long as there's enough money to service the public sector and pay any debt?

Interest payments on the National Debt now comprise a very significant chunk of annual Goverment expenditure. Around £100bn a year. Well over half of the NHS budget.

Exactly, we cannot keep borrowing and I'm sure Labour were very critical of Tory borrowing yet despite raising taxes she has borrowed even more than she said.

The only way to change this cycle is to get a bit radical. How about stopping foreign aid for 10 years and using it to pay down debt? Except we'd have to do that for about 25 years as well as making the interest payments, for it to work.

Labour spent 14 years criticising the previous governments for not spending enough. Now they are moaning there’s no money left. They can’t have it both ways.

Radical is the right word. We need new ideas, bravery and innovation. Not another decade of this day to day managed decline we’ve had for the last 30 years.

It’s the governments primary duty to look after its own people first. It’s all well and good spunking billions at tiny pacific islands in the name of climate change or committing to supporting Ukraine for the next century but it’s a bit of a kick in the balls when they say there’s no money left we’re going to have to tax you til your eyeballs pop.

They spent 14 years whinging that previous Governments didn't spend enough. They also spent the entire pandemic complaining that Government measures weren't tough or long lasting enough.

Their first acts in Government (other than jailing people longer for social media posts than some get for rape) were to raise taxes on employment and start driving non-dom taxpayers abroad. 9500 millionaires are expected to leave the UK this year. Mobile wealth is upping sticks, and it'll be the working classes who are left having to cover the shortfall.

For reference, someone earning £200k will pay roughly £82k in tax annually. It would take seventeen people earning the average UK salary of £37k to replace one of them, yet apparently they're parasites who need to be taxed more according to people who think like Rachel from Customer Services.

It suits certain right wing politicians, like Trump in the States, to keep this problem going because it guarantees then votes.

Unfortunately human rights lawyers prevent quick decisions. Even foriegn criminals convicted of serious crimes can't be deported to their countries. All this paid for by legal aid and tax payers having to put then in expensive hotels.

Poll: Sholud Wales rollout vaccination at full speed.
