Time to move Key? on 19:13 - Nov 28 by swancity | Key needs to concentrate on his defensive positioning and spacial awareness. There are too msny occasions where he is out of position. The Leeds game being a good example. In contrast he’s got an outstanding ability to get forward and quickly. With some work on his positional sense he could make Angel Rangel Mk2 as he’s talented enough albeit it’s a bit raw as it was initially with Angel when he switched from his right midfield role. |
To me it looks as if Key is being asked to move into the midfield given his skills which with Grimes dropping between the centrehalves as needed, this in the end needs Cabango to cover the winger when a high line is enacted which leaves us vulnerable to attack on the right, Tymons is asked to get forward as we don't have a left footed wingers which means Darling has to cover the left, which in turn means Grimes is left to cover the middle, if we get caught on the break there is very little cover in the middle which Leeds exposed to good effect. So is it a good idea to leave opposition wingers free to attack down the flanks, we exploited a similar issues that Leeds have, excepted they did it better. Grimes is playing better this season it seems and Cabango and Darling are giving sterling preformances. Key and Tymon positioning could be crucial to our success this season but in a defensive capacity unless we either get adequate cover for them or a player able to play comfortably on the left and a permanent addition to the midfield, some want an attacking midfielder but is it needed once Eom returns or if we are playing with a centre forward and number 10 enabling players to concentrate on there primary role. The squad needs strengthening no question about that but who are we likely to get.

Time to move Key? on 20:00 - Nov 28 by max936 | Cullens ball for Ronnie to score was sublime, seems to have come of age does Cullen hope his rich vein of form continues. |
He’s always been an intelligent and versatile player. He just doesn’t have that X factor to set him apart. Not big or powerful. Not pacy. Doesn’t have a trick to skin a defender. He’d be a top player if he had any of those to compliment his vision and attitude. I quite like him effectively sharing a role with Allen, even though Allen sits deeper and they play it very differently.

LW obviously saw what Klopp did with Trent A-A playing the inverted fullback role last season and thought he'd try it with Key. I don't dislike that - it worked really well first half v Coventry. But Key needs to learn not to get caught in possession when doing that or when he goes on one of his blind alley runs.
