The argument is that the women finally received "targeted" letters over 2 years after the Government stated that letters should be sent, and that this affected the ability of some women to plan their retirement to their best advantage. As you say, information was transmitted via other channels. I must admit that I'd say the impending change in the retirement age did receive a great deal of publicity, not least in the mass media, so that women should have known about it, On that basis a £10 billion bill seems to me too steep.
Extracts from summary of Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman report:
"We find that between 1995 and 2004, DWP’s communication of changes to State Pension age reflected the standards we would expect it to meet. Accurate information about changes to State Pension age was publicly available in leaflets, through DWP’s pensions education campaigns, through DWP’s agencies and on its website. That reflected those applicable standards. (...)
We consider that, if DWP had made a reasonable decision in August 2005 and then acted promptly, it would have written to affected women to tell them about changes to their State Pension age by, at the latest, December 2006. This is 28 months earlier than DWP actually wrote to them."
It will eventually go to court and be paid in the end with interest. Who will be in power who knows and the majority implicated will be dead. Just wrong on so many levels.

What a hard two faced woman Reeves has become, just talking on the news, after being photographed with Waspi Women and supporting them before the election, now does this about turn.
I was genuinely excited at the thought of a new Labour government, but they have gone way down in my estimation, especially Starmer and Reeves

Don't argue the Tories were to blame, but why did Labour promise them they would sort it whilst in opposition, and now in government change their minds.

Sadly, there are many countries around the world that have very corrupt regimes, Bangladesh is up right up there in the top 25%of the worlds’ most corrupt countries. The claims have been made by a political opponent of the ex leader of Bangladesh and this type of allegation is apparently par for the course over there. Had the allegations originated in somewhere like Germany or Denmark I’d be looking for her to stand aside, but in the absence of any solid evidence, or an international arrest warrant and given the fact we’re talking about a corrupt country etc it’s much much less clear cut.

If there was strong evidence I’d defo agree with you, but looking at the facts as they, origin of claims etc etc if she were one of mine and I’d never had issues with her etc etc I’d probably give her the benefit of the doubt.
If I were the Bangladeshi guy who made the claim, given the fact they’re in the Commonwealth, there a flow of citizens between the countries, they get aid off us etc if there was substance to the claim I’d have though they’d be laying the info out to Starmer via the UK Ambassador or in a call as an early heads up, but who knows.

If it was an investigation here then yes, but we don’t know how much substance there is to this, If Putin made a similar claim would we suspend someone on his word? Bangladesh is a very corrupt country, more corrupt than Russia, Nigeria and rated the same as Lebanon, Iran and Zimbabwe.

There are taxes on everything, directly or indirectly.
I suppose what is being hinted at here is that bus operators receive their income from a combination of fares and tax-funded government subsidies. So although Gwyn is right at one level, there is that link lurking in the background.

I feel this thread is wrong anyway, maybe the titlke should be I have voted tory and/or labour for the last 50 years and I want to apologise.
Both party's have led us to this sorry state.
Or even "I haven't voted at all" that's the biggets problem with democracy in the UK. And it's not in the interest of either Labour or the Tories to change that.
