Energy prices on 23:55 - Nov 18 with 594 views | majorraglan | The CH4 article is over 2 years old and the interview was given in August 2022 when we were facing huge increases in energy costs as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At the time the interview was given the price cap was £1971 and there were forecasts of the price cap going up to over £3k, in January 2023 the cap increased to £4.2k and these rises are the background and context to what Starmer was talking about. Truss’s initial view was that the government wouldn’t be forthcoming with any financial assistance, but as we all know that subsequently changed and we had support which was what Starmer said he was going to do. He basically offered a solution to a problem which we faced and eventually the government of the day introduced their version of a support package he’d advocated. The world has changed significantly since 2022 and energy prices are a lot lower now, however the tensions in the Ukraine and now the Middle East still impact on price sensitivity as we’re seeing with this increase. The link from the Daily Express refers to the Independent regulator Ofgem imposing a 1% increase in the energy price cap in January next year which is the equivalent of £19 a year 37.5 pence a week or for the “average” consumer - 1 coffee a month from Greggs or Starbucks will cost more than the increase. It’s clear you don’t like Starmer ( and I can’t say I’m all that fussed on him either) but dredging up an interview from over 2 years ago given under a totally different context and circumstances is a bit silly in my opinion. There’s plenty to complain about, but I believe your post and the linkage here is ridiculous. You’re a much better poster than this. [Post edited 19 Nov 0:12]

But Sir Kier the World picture map is changing daily whoever you tune into via tinternet . Got to cut him slack though , a small player in the big bad World , thus we all feel it . Privliged will not feel the heating bills as usual , but still toastie in their own Homes . My British Gas Bill will offer me a measly discount and new rates if I change my now so complicated policies to another deal they can offer of course . I give up over these Energy Companies , they really have us in their pockets .
Energy prices on 06:59 - Nov 19 with 527 views | Dr_Winston | It would be something of a miracle if Milliband's drive towards "Net Zero" doesn't result in massive price hikes and people shivering around a candle on Winter Nights because wind turbines aren't as good as gas or nuclear at generating electricity.

I admit I dislike Starmer and even to go as far to say despise the man and now the Labour party for what they stand for . You must realise that regardless of when that interview was given they were the words uttered and the figures announced. He felt it was vote winner then regardless of the time and circumstances and is probably just as relevant now as then. They're now in power but have done little to improve the lot of anyone in fact they seem to be taking us down the path to yet another period of austerity which imo will be the tipping point of how this country reacts to lets be honest a disastrous period of this new government.

Energy prices on 11:57 - Nov 21 with 177 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I bought British gas shares of the State when Mr Thatcher sold them cheaply. It was split into BG and Centrica.BG was the exploration arm which did really well and was bought by Shell. I still hold Centrica shares. They go up and down like a yo yo and are low arm . They give me £250 a year on dividends. Millions of people bought them. back in the 1980s but most sold up for a quick profit after 3 years.
