Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread 16:26 - Nov 2 with 9066 views | ModeratorC | Swansea City show some steel & guts to get the win 6th Nov 2024 08:56Swansea City moved into tenth place in the Championship last night with a very hard fought win over fifth place Watford in their Championship game at the Swansea.com. Myles Peart-Harris most certainly earned the plaudits in a tense second half. The Swans will remain in tenth spot even after the rest of the Championship fixtures are completed tonight. 0

Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread on 21:14 - Nov 5 by Joesus_Of_Narbereth | This is the most positive we’ve been for a long long time. Deserves more goals but everyone knows we are more than capable of effing it all up. 🤦♂️ |
This is the gut feeling of all of us. I miss the feeling of 💯 belief that we would score 6 if they scored 5

Fair point did you see the bbc article with VIP? He is frustrated with the start he has made. We definitely need a back up striker to push him. But in January things are super expensive. What side will sell their top scorer?

Good result, but the team seem to run out of energy and confidence late on. The two centre backs did well, but others looked sloppy in those closing minutes.

I thought so too, but the ref booked Franco for kicking the ball away right on half-time - not MPH.

Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread on 22:10 - Nov 5 with 1603 views | union_jack | Ok, great result and some very good performances. BUT, we are not 90 minutes fit. You could feel the tiredness on Key and MPH for the last quarter. In fact MPH was going at 5mph at the end. It’s strange because we play a game which attracts the opposition to press us and we allow it by passing the ball at the very last moment. It was Martin who instilled that in us if I remember. But it’s the opposition who have all the energy in the last quarter. I hope this improves as the season progresses.

Three points, onwards and upwards. Take the win and smile. Now hoping for Trump to get thumped.

That’s just a squad depth thing. We play at quite a high intensity and yes that should tire opponents at least as much as us. They invariably have better players to bring on than we do though. It puts more pressure on the players who have been on from the start and are inevitably starting to tire. We tend to make a lot of mistakes and the game gets scrappier in the last 15-20 minutes.
Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread on 23:08 - Nov 5 with 1229 views | swancity | A very good win against a big powerful athletic Watford side who were 5th for a reason. First half football of a high quality. Less impressive second half and we did sit back a bit too much in the last 5/10 minutes which invited a bit of pressure. It’s that stick of twist situation really as Brentford found last night when they had all eleven players in deep positions going into the last five minutes and paid the penalty. Otherwise superb stuff. Vipotnik apart that is who was anonymous throughout. He rarely looks a bit lost almost in movement and speed of thought.

Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread on 23:29 - Nov 5 with 1147 views | RichardO | Happy with the win outplayed them in the first half, ground out the result in the second half even though sloopy play in closed down space could have cost us. Nice to have a couple of taller players at William's disposal to both defend corners better but also look dangerous on our attacking ones, we tried to mix the corners up with short corners but we did seem to have the edge aerially in the box while looking dangerous in theirs.. Left side played to their strength quick balls to the winger to terrorise defenders early, right side good quick interplay to move opposition players around. both having the same effect getting in behind defenders, full backs playing to the strengths of the players in front of them. Think we are seeing Grimes getting the ball out from his feet this season he seems to have a better first touch that enables him to evade the pressing player better, more nimble on his feet. Will take the win that William's maybe enforced changes has given us, a bit conservative but at least he didn't try changing things around too much. A worrisome game dealt with. On to the next one.

I posted this while I was tired! While it would normally be my point of view, I don’t think the subs actually did weaken us last night.
Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread on 07:00 - Nov 6 with 889 views | Dr_Winston | There's clearly been a change in the way that we pass the ball in the last couple of games. Our pace, movement and intent at both Oxford and last night barely resembled the nonsense that we saw for most of September and October. Either Williams has finally worked it out, or the loss of Eom and Cooper forced him to try something different and we lucked out. Either way, we can but hope things don't revert when players start coming back. Probably not a coincidence that Ronald's best game all season last night came when he was on the left hand side instead of the right. He's always looked more comfortable cutting inside than he has going to the byline.

That’s it. Blame the manager when we lose and then find excuses to criticise him when we win. Keep an open mind instead of stubbornly sticking to an agenda. That way you can enjoy the pleasure of our wins too

We got the ball early to Ronald either to his feet or into the space beyond the fullback either way allowing him to use his pace one on one similar to Eom"s trickery, agree about the cutting inside on his right similar to why we looked better in earlier games on the left, As for the right Pearl-Harris seems comfortable on the ball and seems to allow or create more space for Key's runs either inside or out especially as the interplay between Pearl-Harris, Franco and Key seemed to suck defenders in creating the space, even for the long switched ball. Franco covering for Key's forays forward was excellent Second half Watford tried to close our game down a bit and sloopy passing in our defensive third helped them get on top of that but what was nice to see, was the willingness to throw forward at our throw ins times taking of pressure our defenders also in behind their defenders making them turn which also kept them under pressure. We were unable to keep them under pressure so much in that second half which is understandable given they were desperate to get something out of the game but I thought we did caused them problems even then. They targeted Naughton hence the substitutions as he tired but I have to say Darling covering tackle was excellent I have been critical in the past about his bad positioning on the left not knowing when to go cover the full back or stay but he knew that Naughton was struggling and made the decision early to close down the wingers run, we have seen both Cabango and Darling influence the game and crowd that they really need to be made a decent contract offering if they haven't already been offered one especially if we are now building towards a future after cutting costs so much. A number of little difference in play that kept the pressure firmly on the oppositionin in that first half and at times in the second they really did struggle to create any clear goal scoring options. Think it is a case of the manager finding the right fit for the players at his disposal and the skills they possess. If you think about it Ronald looked better playing in front of Naughton on the right last season when Key was injured and as he did yesterday on the left, sometimes good skillful players with different style of play don't compliment each other, Naughton's experience allows him to be more adaptable to different players. Both Key and Ronald have good points but with a bit more experience they may end up being a better fit with help of coaching.
