Only in the UK, whatever happened to basic common-sense by our so called betters. Putin is moving towards a wider war footing, he's testing our ariel response to his air forces incursions and now some dimwit decided to allow one of his ships loaded with enough ammonia nitrate to reshape part of the UK's eastern seaboard .This after the more sensible amongst the free world decide its too much of a risk to allow it to dock. Taking aside whether Russia is involved or not why would the UK take a risk of a major event occurring right here at home when the ship can still move under its own powe.

UK is a trading nation with a long history of good industrial practices. The ship is Maltese registered and the cargo was on its way to Canary Islands.

The material is "potentially dangerous" but not particularly dangerous in the possession of people with knowledge and skills under UK H&S law.

The UK experts will assess the risks from a position of knowledge unload and reload the cargo on a new ship and complete the journey taking a significant sizeable fee. They mayy be able to take the profit on scrapping the ship.

UK is respected for being able and willing to solve other nations problems for a fee.

The UK public got hysterical few years back when five or six US Navy ships with asbestos problems were due to be scrapped in Hartlepool under the close supervision of UK experts. I will have to research what happened to them . I would not be surprised if they ended up in loosely regulated places like Turkiye or India with lamentable H&S records.
