Labour MPs on 18:01 - Oct 27 with 783 views | AnotherJohn | As you'll know I have no love for many of them, but best to wait to see whether Amesbury was defending himself. I don't, for instance, blame "three Jags" Prescott for that punch years ago. I'd rather see that than the effete victim response that would come from some of them. Have to say it looks as though Amesbury has had a lemonade or two. [Post edited 28 Oct 8:02]

This. Lord only knows I'm not someone to defend a Labour politician, but it depends what was said to him at the time. There are plenty of gobby berks out there who seem to think that they're untouchable. If the bloke who was punched was making threats or being abusive then he deserved a clump, even if he was too dumb to have his hands out of his pockets. If he wasn't, then the MP may well go down.

Not sure a p***ed MP punching a bloke or the other saying to cut the throats of anyone who disagrees with his views needs much waiting for conclusions Sure you’d think the same if it was a Tory.?

If the article is accurate though and he continued to lay into the bloke as he was on the floor any notion of self defence goes out of the window.

What if the guy said he was going to stab him? If someone says that to me I'm going to deck him and kick him until I'm sure he's not getting up again any time soon. I'm not going to wait until I see the knife.

Sucker punched him, and then proceeded to punch him 6 times whilst he was on the floor. Now suspended by the Labour Party, hopefully he will do some time, like anybody else carrying out a common assault like that in the street

In those circumstances, probably yes. Although if not an MP I'd probably say "me" instead.

Labour MPs on 22:54 - Oct 27 with 475 views | majorraglan | Let’s see what comes out of the police investigation. I don’t think we’re seeing the whole video, there’s a youngster looking on and the way the MP and other bloke are in close proximity suggests something has already taken place. It doesn't look good for the MP, but let’s allow the police investigation to run its course. If the MP is out of order, then I hope he gets suspended from Parliament and his constituents get the chance to have a recall vote. Nice to see some positive action by the Labour Party who’ve suspended this guy from the party. [Post edited 27 Oct 23:14]

Labour MPs on 00:57 - Oct 28 with 447 views | Kilkennyjack | Yes, MPs should not be getting in such a situation, we dont know what was said but its a poor look. Likewise the list of MP’s last parliament charged with sexual misconduct was ridiculous. It should not happen, probably both the people and the system. Something is not right.

Stop talking rot, Starmer won’t have any say on this, this two tier Kier stuff is guff. A decision on this case will be down to the police and the CPS. Even if he could influence the outcome, he’d be ill advised to get involved.

Starmer should have no say on police and CPS action. But after the riots he was talking about people being put through the courts quickly and had claimed credit for the 'response' to the riots.

People out at 3am are either invariably committing crime or ratrsed and not fully cognisant of what they’re doing . I’d question simply what the hell he was doing out at that time, being a MP. Not that exhausting. Job really or so it seems .. It was a nice little left jab albeit the receiver should have avoided. Always stand at an angle of 45 degrees and keep your balance , The problem with alcohol consumption in the early hours .

Not going to disagree with you on any one the above. When you’re in the public eye like this MP is, your behaviour should be beyond reproach. The MP’s actions may have been justified, but it doesn’t look good. As you’ll be aware a pre-emptive strike is permitted as an act of self defence, it really boils down to what’s happened off camera and what’s been said. We’lll have to wait and see what comes out in the wash.
