Swansea City v Millwall : Match day thread 00:08 - Oct 24 with 11578 viewsModeratorC

The last game at the Swansea.Com at the end of last season was a bit feisty. This time let’s concentrate on the bleeding obvious.

Swansea City : Millwall is the catalyst for Luke Williams 24th Oct 2024 11:49
Swansea City have one point from six since their return from the international break. And with four games to go before the next one, head coach Luke Williams seems somewhat lost to explain why we have this situation. 0

Swansea City v Millwall : From the other side + Swans latest 25th Oct 2024 08:00
Millwall head coach, Neil Harris has acknowledged his young players are exciting him this season. Dan Kelly, Adam Mayor and Alfie Massey have all had a mention as Harris looks towards tomorrows game at the Swansea.Com (3pm) 0

Swans v Lions : Team News & pre match build up 26th Oct 2024 11:12
Swansea City take on Millwall this afternoon (3pm) in the EFL Championship at the Swansea.com stadium. Head coach, Luke Williams is still determined to utilise his main squad and not bring in any player from the U21 side. 0

Vigouroux error and again the Swans fail to score 26th Oct 2024 17:39
Swansea City hit five games without a goal this afternoon. Despite a plethora of chances they failed miserably in front of goal, Myles Peart-Harris and Florian Bianchini the main offenders. Lukas Jensen was the Millwall star player in goal, testament to not only how poor the Swans were but how Millwall clung on and won the game. 0

Well that was bitterly disappointing, picked off again, understandable really, well over committed because everyone playing, coaching, supporting for the Swans wanted the win we were getting forward in numbers to try and get that elusive win. It would have been easier for Vigouroux to play the short ball to Darling but he tried the longer more d iffercult ball to Tymon which has previously worked but whether by luck or judgement that ball intercepted and the unexpected loss was inevitable so late.

Was it a better game played by us, did we have more clear cut chances. Did we look to move the ball quicker, I thought we did, Williams tried to change things up front which most of us thought was needed, Vipotnik getting into positions and receiving better balls, having a couple of opportunities at least one shot another time he miscontrolled the ball but the opportunities was lost.
Pearl-Harris out wide really struggled early on I thought he got better as the game moved on but we were ineffective down the left at times maybe in the search for a wide player too many changes with Cullen in for Cooper.
I thought we looked better on the right and with Franco linking up well with Key but to do that meant Franco dropped deep which is what I have asking for making the passing quicker and sharp one touch football that Grimes does not offer enough.
On a number of times Key got into good forward positions with the ball even having chances on goal but similar to Grimes but with more pace although at times as the opposition had got out of shape with their press he should be releasing the ball first time to Ronald instead of letting the opposition get back into shape.

Ronald was given the ball quickly early in the first half the full back went through him, should have been a booking so early in the game we will give the ref a bit of leeway, we got the free kick high up the park , but we never tried to get the ball to Ronald quick enough again to test the fullback as cover was always in place, could we tempt the fullback into another foul which surely lead to a booking, Key is not giving Ronald the ball quick enough not creating the angles that won't be picked of by trying to start a move off in a position so high up the park receiving the ball from Cabango isn't an option giving Cabango no option but to slow the game down, as it is Cabango has seen himself have to make the through middle pass which while gets a 50-50 chance of getting through end up being some of our best balls into forward positions

It was a game we should have won but Vigouroux preferred kicking option was picked off, one, because it was underhit and two, because it was anticipated by the opposition because it was the usual ball played, the attacker was positioned correctly because the opposition had got themselves into a good defensive position.
Vigouroux has been great this season but a number of times when a quick long ball up the park is needed be it wide or down the middle it is not forthcoming similarly a quick throw out to feet with the opposition out of position, which seems very symptomatic of our plight at the moment we are not taking our chances while the opposition is out of position as we play too cautiously.

If that’s where we are heading, then it’s another round of big compo, paying out for new staff and round and round, here we go again.

Resulting in less money to spend on contracts for Cabango and Darling,or sourcing a goal scorer

That's also the way I saw it, many positives and some negatives. We lost on another day we would have won. There really needs to be some balance.

It should be towards the opponents goal
70% possession with a loss is not a balance

Problem is my eyes are open
What I see is what you see
You simply interpret it differently
I see mistakes replicated
I hear the same bs prior to games
I see somebody like Cullen in. Swansea shirt
I see or captain walking at full time passing sideways
Shots saved and also shots not taken
Millwall converted their one chance , we didn't convert any
That's what I see

Thanks

Think what rankles with myself as a fan is the fact we see oppountites all over the pictch to catch the opposition out of position and yet a one size fits all mentally instilled in the players doesn't work in making the most of those opportunities, football is a fluid game that changes constantly the fact we don't make the most of them, knowing when the move the ball quickly, when to press, when to run with the ball, getting into positions to receive the ball these descions are down to the men on the pitch.
The defense relatively solid, the midfield isn't working properly to quickly link the backs to the forwards, the forwards are who we have, we have won fame, we have regressed but still think we can do a lot better even with the supposedly weak squad.

Edited to men on the pitch not man on the ball.

The midfield needed more work in the summer, I said then that the midfield should have been the first area for improvement all they've done is brought Franco in, Eom was a big miss yesterday, the lack of strength and presence up front is getting even more telling, Peart-Harris and Bianchini need to be starting games, Harris did yesterday granted, but that needs to continue to improve his confidence.

Peart Harris threw away two golden chances to score.

Too much miscontrol.

Cullen given endless chances thiugh

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE JOKING!
He's a Obafemi wannabe - runs 40 yards in full camera view, then stop 5/10 yards short of where a challenge is possible. Re-run the video of ALL of our many corners, a laundry basket would have been of more use.
The only time he ever looks enthused is when he has to go back and defend a free kick or corner, maybe there is a central defender in there somewhere?
But a hard worker - not a chance.

Two young Swans who were given opportunities to play were the Brentford loanee, Peart-Harris, and new signee, Bianchini. Shows that Williams has more confidence in players that have been brought through other club's organization rather than Swans Academy. If I were an Academy player, then I would be very disheartened. Nzingo, Parker, Govea, Wilson, Lloyd, Lissah, Watts, etc.

Does Luke Williams trust his academy options ? 27th Oct 2024 10:00
Our chief football writer Trystan Bending returns and asks more questions. Today he examines those players who Luke Williams chooses to ignore, and in the main has done so since his arrival in January. Yes, some have been injured but that’s not the full story. 1

I don't normally look at the highlights when we lose but I did today to try and work out what happened. The first 75 mins was for the most part dreadful. Slow, boring, paint dry stuff. The last fifteen they came to life. I don't know if it was Ollie coming on (whether Franco should have been the one going off is another question) but things immediately became more positive.

They went at it and there were a lot of chances. The highlights showed the scrambles at both posts, Key's chance straight at the keeper and the double save/block by the keeper. It didn't show the two free headers in the six yard box - Darling and ??? (can't remember). Darlings went over the top and the other header went wide of the right hand post. That one was completely free and didn't even hit the target.

Back to the first 75 mins. Incredibly frustrating and Grimes was guilty a lot of the time for slowing things down but I also lost count of the number of times I said to my mate no one is moving. Grimes had Darling and Cabango either side of him meaning there were seven players in front of him and not one of them was moving to create space for a pass (not all the time obviously).

Is that a coaching problem ? Do you need to be told that you need to make space ? The answers no.

Then back to the last fifteen minutes. All those chances not scored from. Some of it was good goalkeeping but if so many chances are created is it the coaches fault that none of them were taken ?

The lack of movement is something that gets my back up. You’re right, that’s not coaching, that’s basic football awareness.

I watch sometimes and when a player has the ball and there’s an opposition player in between one who could receive it, they stay there instead of moving to give the ball player the option. It’s basic stuff.

For some inexplicable reason, I was fairly confident of beating Millwall, especially after the criticism the team has received lately.

I thought they might have come out with a bit of aggresion and pride, unfortunately, I was disappointed, they just served up the same rubbish that we've grown to expect from the team.

It's going to be hard to part with my cash on a ST next year.
