The Crown Estates 18:10 - Oct 3 with 2244 viewsjohnlangy

I've read many times about the fact that the crown estates 'own' (?) the seabed around the UK.

I never understood how that worked until now. I've read today that Gwynedd Council has to pay the crown estates £161,000 a year in order for it's residents to have access to their beaches and other seafront facilities.

And if Gwynedd has to pay then so do all other Welsh councils including ours. So we have to pay the spongers so we can walk on OUR own beaches.

It's like living in medieval Britain, it really is.

It is part of a corrupt system that should be binned now along with the royals.

Most crown estate land is bought as an investment rather than a birthright. If they didn't buy it someone else would.

At least crown estate land see's a return to the public purse rather than profits disappearing to an offshore tax haven.

It's not perfect, but there are far worse landlords around.

Did the Crown estate buy the foreshore up to 12 nautical miles out? 65% of Welsh forshore is owned by them.

Wales has also been treated worse than scotland by not having the estate devolved as in Scotland. My opinions about the Senedd notwithstanding, why is that fair?

The Crown estates...Duchy of Cornwall, a Royal property since 1337. Crown estate property is valued around 16 billion.

It was royal property long before that. The Duchy of Cornwall was created for the Black Prince as a vehicle to give him the finance and autonomy to learn the art of leadership before he became king which he sadly never did of course, shitting himself to death in his early forties.

Poll: We all dream of a managerial team of Alan Tates?

Just a subject I’m passionate about. The Plantagenets were a fascinating bunch. From the white ship disaster to Richard falling at Bosworth it’s a veritable soap opera of intrigue, plot, tragedy and drama. I could talk for hours about it but ask me about other things like opera, golf or musicals and I’ve as much knowledge as.a broken sledgehammer.

Aha.
I’m quite an opera buff ,as it happens but not golf and musicals I detest .
Me ol mum ,a decent mezzo soprano ,belted out the whole of Sound of Music for about three years
1965 was tough for me . I was hoping Kjikie Andrew’s would fall off the edge of that mountain every time we were forced to watch it

Yes that film is insufferable. Within ten minutes I was hoping the Nazis would win.

Yeah, I just couldn't be bothered to go into that detail about Edward. I could have copied and pasted maybe but what I said was enough to get the point across.

There's Lancaster too, held in trust for the monarch. As if our "Royalty" don't have enough.
