It is a delicious irony of course that the Lamb of God himself Mr J.C lived an incredibly simple life. He walked barefoot through the desert, lay his head down in animal barns. Preached against the pursuit of materialism and overindulgence.
Yet the men who have followed who claim to teach and act in his name, the Popes, Cardinals, kings, Archbishops etc tend to live in gargantuan palaces wearing the finest tailored clothes from the best materials eating the most exotic food from around the world cooked and served by an army of servants and housekeepers having their every whim indulged on command all paid for by their flock who are more often than not living in worse conditions than Mr Christ himself.
Great thinkers like Jan Hus were pointing out this hypocrisy over 7 centuries ago. They called him a heretic and killed him and carried on regardless.

Sunday School in my local Church Hall never turned me into a suicide bomber .
I had a chance to get out out of the house that afternoon , get the crayons and paper out .
Then have some with other kids of my age , that hall like Youth clubs all gone sadly .
Vicarage was across the road from the Church , a true village icon for us of a certain age .
Looks like that ethos has long gone now along with Commuity spirit , helped me though.
History lessons in School , King Richard leading the Crusades to slaughter the Muslims .
Very much doubt if that is on the cirriculum now of puplls these days .

I imagine he was.
When you think of Jesus as just a man, a historical figure his story becomes exponentially more incredible. I mean if you’re literally God and can pretty much do anything with the click of a finger it’s not all that impressive to be born in a barn, live for 33 years, get executed then inspire billions of people to follow you for thousands of years after your death. You’re God. That’s child’s play.
But if you’re just a normal bloke, A simple carpenter born into poverty in an unspectacular time period and the things you do and say are so inspirational that people born two millennia after you follow your teachings in every corner of the world? That’s pretty special. |  |
