Good. It's made alternatives to the Tories electable and probably better represents the view of the people. Extremists need to be an ignored minority, we won't be too far off then.

Labour's share of votes in Wales actually fell 3.9% Once reform and Conservative decide not to split the vote labour will loose especially after the Chancellor's taxation u turns this weeks. At least in the UK it is a fair result unlike iin socialist Venezuela where the left wing president altered the result.

The point is Labour are right wing extremists, check out the graph. The fear is pensioners fuel allowance will be going, 25% tax free from personal pensions going, cap on child benefits and Labour are Tory lite, the Conservatives are even worse. If you want true middle ground policies you need to vote Plaid, SNP, SDLP and not the Westminster big three otherwise you are looking at right wing policies, the graph is plotted on the parties policies .

Society has moved to the right, perhaps you for instance think you are in the middle but perhaps you are on the right, people might think I'm on the left but I'm actually in the middle. The Overton window has moved right over to the right Look at that Sanders guy in America they call him a Communist, when he is middle of the road, Biden and Trump are more or less fascists.

It is rather telling that pretty much every party is classed as authoritarian or on the border of authoritarian. For a libertarian like myself that believes in personal freedom and a small state that doesn’t poke its nose into every facet of my life there’s absolutely no option. How the Green Party is not classed as authoritarian is also beyond me.

Next general election. on 19:11 - Aug 2 by Scotia | Immigration is an issue we need to address. The first problem though is that we rely on immigrants to do a lot of work others won't do. The term "far right" is bandied about too much, I may be seen as captain woke on here, but ignoring obviously stupid concerns people have does more harm than good. Immigration is one, but I am disgusted a transgender woman is boxing as a woman in the Olympics. We need to cut out the extreme right, left, LGBTQ activists, climate protesters and concentrate on sensible arguments in the middle. |

Of course it has. We're more reliant on migrants than ever. Legal and illegal. Who cuts people's hair, does their nails, picks the vegetables ,cooks their takeaways, delivers their takeaways, drives a taxi, washes their cars, wipes arses in care homes? That's before you think of immigrants doing jobs we can't do. That's the fault of the Tories against a time of virtually no investment. The media are owned by the right so blame migrants not lack of spending, it's easier. More people, less services equals too much pressure. It's not the people's fault. They're doing they're bit on the whole. We need to get the feckless in to work and then revaluate immigration.

Agree with a lot of that, but as I see it there are at least two big problems, even in purely economic terms. 1. The proportion of migrants in low-paid jobs who don't make a net fiscal contribution is rising. https://www.bing.com/search?q=uk+addiction+to+cheap+migrant+labour&form=ANNN 2. Of the overall number of migrants admitted in the last year for which stats are available, the percentage in work is falling and the percentages of dependents and economically inactive persons is rising, This is especially so for certain ethnic/country groups. "there were 290,246 visas granted to dependants of people who had been granted a work visa, 55% more than in the year ending March 2023, primarily in the Health and Care sector". https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-endi (admittedly dependent numbers are likely to fall after recent policy changes).

No disagreeing with you at all, just more of an addition to both your points. 1. Work needs to pay. If these low paid jobs do not pay enough for a decent standard of living then British people won’t do them. There’s a lot hiding behind us being the 6th richest country in the world. I’d say we’re better described as a poor (relative) country with some very very rich people. 2. Part of the percentage in work falling is down to the lack of processing. Those who can work and contribute should be able to do so.

Work should pay, it's criminal that people in full time jobs still need welfare. They told us raising the minimum wage would mean food prices rose but then food prices rose anyway. They put interest rates up so peoples mortgages got more expensive, loans and credit cards got more expensive which didn't affect the rich. Now inflation has come down but the price stay high. The Saudi's led OPEC into cutting petrol production so the prices rose across the world, in the UK prices are already high because of green levies. High petrol prices mean everything else is more expensive. It's all a scam by the rich and powerful. Kepp us in our place, keep the poor, poor. n keep the plebs arguing amongst themselves.

Very well said Gwyn. I've often wondered why it's okay for firms to pay their workers such a low wage that they have to claim benefits while the firm is making large profits which go into shareholders and overpaid execs wage packets. In other words the Government, with our taxes, subsidise those firms profits. And when the workers say give us more the firm says we can't afford it and the Government says it will fuel inflation. And perish the thought that those workers may go on strike. How very unpatriotic of them. In other words know your place. Another gem is that people say British people are lazy, that they won't do certain jobs. Working on farms picking fruit and veg is very often an example used. And the media, not to mention so many other 'normal' working people, join in the chorus. A lady from Norfolk rang a radio phone in a couple of weeks ago about the fruit and veg question. She said who on earth do you think did all those jobs before farmers (and the same applies in many industries) dumped their British workers because they could get migrant workers to do the jobs for less. The British workers weren't lazy, the employers were greedy. An example of the very rich people you mention Gwyn. Since 2012 workers wages have been reduced across the board substantially due to the financial problems in the UK, austerity and all that. Meanwhile one family have seen their wealth grow from £9 billion to £37 billion during the same period. And that family have recently been found guilty (in a Swiss court I believe) of maltreating their servants. Servants probably paid minimum wage i've no doubt. I can't really think of a more corrupt system that allows this sort of situation to continue.
