Premier League manager receives honorary degree ... 13:42 - Jul 31 with 878 views | theloneranger | "A Premier League manager will receive an honorary university degree from the Sussex city that he was born and grew up in. Russell Martin, who got Southampton promoted in the 2023/24 season, will collect his award from the University of Brighton later today. He has been awarded it in recognition of his work to improve the lives of young people in Brighton & Hove. Martin set up the Russell Martin Foundation (RMF) in 2017, with the aim of using the power of football to change lives. The RMF is now supported by Brighton & Hove City Council and works with 10 secondary schools in the city and 40 schools across "Sussex to identify and support young people who need respite from mainstream education. The foundation also works with the Extra Time Project and people who may struggle in mainstream education. People can go to the foundation for 12 to 16 weeks to get back on track with their education and self-esteem before "it is too late". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpe3gnng58go | ![](/images/avatars/21051.gif) |

Premier League manager receives honorary degree ... on 16:26 - Aug 1 with 675 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Obviously credit to him for his foundation. He did however leave Swansea with out properly honouring his contract in full. He used Southampton legal people to reduce what was in the contract like any wide boy would try on. Swansea reluctantly had to accept less than what they were due. Holding the bloke to his contact would not have worked for anyone. | ![](/images/avatars/27402.gif) |

It was a quiet window for almost all Championship clubs. Only he got upset publically. There was an apology after the breakdown of the Karlan Grant deal. Things were settled and a plane was arranged for him to g fly for talks over a new deal 6 months later. The US owners have acted on that window failings which appeared to revolved around a fractured decision making structure. The speed and secrecy of the Vipotnik deal is to the clubs credit. | ![](/images/avatars/27402.gif) |
