Our Style Of Play 19:40 - Jul 25 with 5043 views | union_jack | I don’t pretend to be an expert on tactics, formations etc. indeed far from it but the style of play we’ve adopted for quite a few years just has not worked for us. If the Köln game was anything to go by, and I only saw snippets, it seems this playing out from the back is going to be on the agenda once again. I just don’t think we are equipped to be successful with this style. We invite pressure on ourselves because we don’t move the ball quick enough and invariably we end up losing it after a volley of passes which we can’t keep up with or sending the ball long and give away possession. Now, I don’t know if the new additions are going to help, does anyone, but another season of frustration awaits methinks. It would be good to hear from those more tactically savvy than me on this such as RichardO. And maybe try to persuade me otherwise😬?

Our Style Of Play on 20:49 - Jul 27 by SullutaCreturned | A new striker is a must because Cullen just isn't fit to lead the line. he works hard, he tries very hard but he's just not good enough. Cullen might be useful played off a decent striker but up front alone, we may as well rely on a 6ft concrete statue of Latchford. |
The statue would score more.

Yeah, he’s never going to cut it as a lone striker. He’s not big or strong enough. Failing that you have to be super quick, which he isn’t, If LW wants to play two wingers, it has to be one up front and we need them in pronto. Cullen (like Ollie Cooper) is fine to bring on for half an hour to nick a goal, but he can’t be starting in that formation.

What a difference 3 dm days makes! The style of play must change from a possession for possessions sake style to a style where the focus is to capitalize on the speed of our front three. Luke has a massive opportunity to put his own stamp and move away from useless old Russ ball

If we play like we did from the time we signed Ronald and Placheta, we’ll be fine. The issue was we didn’t have any real threat in the box. Cullen and Yates were easy to mark out of the game up front on their own. He solved the first problem of having no pace out wide, he just couldn’t get a tune out of our strikers. We may have had more possession most games, but the passing it round dangerously at the back and getting to half way and not looking to do anything with it left the club with Russell Martin. Obviously relies on Vipotnik being more effective than last seasons strikers.

Om Whoever you are, we comment,or atbieast I do,as things ARE and how we perceive them. More often than not,we overreact and that is not only understandable but desirable . When we don’t reac,we are dead in the water I’m Head Poncho of the ORC ( overreaction club)

Tymon puts in plenty of devilish crosses but we had no bugger attacking them. Hopefully Zan the man will reap the rewards by actually getting his noggin/foot/arse (whatever it takes) on the end of one of them.

Tymon runs down the left were largely ignored by Paterson and that was why I preferred Paterson on the right side of the middle of midfield and Cooper on the left, Cooperj often covered for Manning well the pre ious year, with Eom in the team wonder how to partnerships on the left will develop [Post edited 2 Aug 13:20]

If Tymon continues as he did last season he will be a star player, a machine.

We live in hope but... games goals 2020–2023 Maribor 39 (20) 2021 → Gorica (loan) 17 (1) 2022 → Triglav Kranj (loan) 12 (9) 2023–2024 Bordeaux 37 (10 On the plus side, he's only 22 and 6'1, hopefully he's quite quick ad physical. With the right service maybe his record will improve with us

Not having a go at all. Everyone was at least a bit worried but we now know the club are on the right track with recruitment- and are scouring the continent and further. I think we can all be cautiously optimistic that by the time we kick off at Boro we will be a lot different a side than we started last season. Thankfully!

I have to say I disagree, at least on my part. We had an unproven Ginelly, Yates had a lot to prove coming from a division below and our midfield left a lot to be desired (and no real wingers). These new players are definitely a cut above and Ronald will be fully acclimatised and raring to go. No moody Paterson and injury prone but unlucky Liam Walsh and seemingly more players (up to 3 I heard ) to come in. I’m feeling far more optimistic than I was this time last year.
